PhilHealth "Liquidated" That P15 Billion and Now We Can't Even Count the LOLs

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is getting a whole lot of attention on Facebook, earning thousands of "haha" reactions on a post in which it liquidated P15 billion that is allegedly missing. The P15 billion was "never lost" and was distributed to 711 hospitals during the pandemic, stated the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth)—complete with a breakdown of allocations per region in a light blue art card.

"Properly accounted po ito. Sa katunayan ay P14.21 bilyon o 95% na ang na-liquidate o naisulit na ng mga ospital, katunayang pinakinabangan ito ng mga pasyente at hindi ng bulsa ng sinoman," they said in the caption.

The card was posted on March 8 and as of early next morning, of the more than 60,000 reactions, around 59,000 were "haha" reactions. The post has been shared 24,000 times and has around 10,000 comments as of writing.

Corruption in PhilHealth, allegedly led by a "mafia," was exposed at the height of quarantines in 2020. Then PhilHealth chief Ricardo Morales went on medical leave and ultimately resigned during the probe. President Rodrigo Duterte then appointed ex-National Bureau of Investigation chief Dante Gierran to lead the agency.

PhilHealth added in the graphic, "Magtanong kung may tanong" and folks went all-in in the comments. Apart from very necessary questions—such as something about the new sub-regions we haven't heard of before being listed down—Pinoys were quick to flood the comments section with clown emojis, memes, and GIFs, plus some epic pilosopo and sarcastic humor.
