It's easily accessible by public bus and ferry, has a whole strip of budget hotels and resorts, and filled with no-frills bars and restaurants. And in an executive order signed by Puerto Galera Municipal Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan on March 4, Puerto Galera's ports—Balatero Port, Muelle Port, and Villaflor Border—are reopening to domestic travelers on March 10. There's also no need to present negative results of an RT-PCR test for COVID-19.

If you're looking for a private getaway, Fridays Puerto Galera on Boquete Island (a.k.a. Paniquian Island) can be accessed by AirTrav's seaplane from Manila Bay. Opened in December 2017, it boasts 32 rooms—each with a balcony that has a stunning view of the sea, surrounding islets, and swimming pool. The villas also feature cogon-thatched roofs, bamboo finishing, and decor items made with capiz to complete the island resort's Filipino feel.
