(SPOT.ph) "The older generations f*cked up, including mine," said Erwin Romulo in the trailer for Podcast 1081: Mga Kwentong Martial Law. Romulo, a composer and former Editor-in-Chief for Esquire magazine, grew up during the Martial Law years and is revisiting the dark period alongside Mariah Reodica, a millennial writer and musician. The two—one who lived it and one who didn't—interview different people on their podcast about their experiences, lessons, and "even their small sparks of light inspirations during the darkest days in Philippine History."

This new Pinoy podcast sheds light on Martial Law stories
Podcast 1081, referencing Proclamation No. 1081 which contained the formal declaration of Martial Law under late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, fittingly released their first episode on September 21. Romulo and Reodica interviewed Neil Daza, a fellow creative who found his calling as a filmmaker during the regime. Daza was around 10 years old when Martial Law was declared—his memories of the time range from the sudden disappearance of his favorite cartoons from TV to the incarceration of his father, a former colonel.
To say that different generations have different opinions on what happened during Martial Law is an understatement. Heck, people across the same generations are divided as well. What this new podcast aims to do is to shed light on stories from people who lived through this regime—as guided by two hosts from two different generations.
As Romulo continued in the trailer addressing the younger gens, "The best we can do is help you fix our mess." These stories will hopefully set the record straight. "It's my generation's chance to set things right," added Reodica.
Podcast 1081: Mga Kwentong Martial Law is an ongoing series under Podcast Network Asia. You can listen to the show on Spotify.
