A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get a little freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
Have you ever heard of The Hum? Or maybe I should ask, have you ever heard The Hum? It’s this strange sound that has been heard in different locations around the world over the last fifty years. No one knows for sure what causes this sound, which is why it has been featured on Unsolved Mysteries and mentioned on The X-Files.
I’ve been thinking about The Hum today because the Friday Fright Night feature we have for you to check out this week is writer/director Justin Miller’s horror comedy Sleep. Walk. Kill., which begins with a strange sound emanating from the sky… but this isn’t The Hum or even a skyquake. Although, it probably is more skyquake than hum. Whatever it is, this sound is what kicks off a nightmarish event that plays out like a comedy-tinged variation on George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead.
Sleep. Walk. Kill. has the following synopsis:
News reports tell of an earth-shattering sound heard along the entire East Coast. Nobody knows where it came from. Nobody knows what it means. That night, people start walking in their sleep. And killing in their sleep. When the screaming stops and the blood dries up, the ones who are left have to work together to stay alive. Heads will roll, eyeballs will fly, but for Edgar, hell is still just other people. His ex-wife, his parents and all his neighbors are hiding out at his house. And they’re even worse than the sleepwalkers.
The film stars Bill Reick, Ellen Boscov, Darryl Charles, Rob Coulter, Zoey Miller, Bob Quintana, John Reshetar, Melanie Rosedale, Samantha Russell, Ashlee Rose Toll, Zachary Uzupis, Raquel Watson, and The Legendary Wid.
Sleep. Walk. Kill. was the first writing and directing credit for Miller. The only other credit on his filmography is as associate producer on the documentary King on Screen, which is about the many Stephen King adaptations that have been made over the years.
Sleep. Walk. Kill. has a good sense of humor to it, and I enjoyed watching its take on Night of the Living Dead play out. The original Night is my default “comfort movie”, it’s the movie I have sat through more than any other, so being reminiscent of that movie is an easy way to get a passing grade from me.
So check out Sleep. Walk. Kill. – after all, it’s free! – and see if it appeals to you as well. Then share your thoughts on the film by leaving a comment below or over on YouTube.
