Death is inevitable, and this is something that even anime characters cannot run away from. Fans have watched their favorite characters die in their respective series, but sometimes the character's death is sudden and unanticipated, and it comes in such a way that no one could have anticipated.

Sudden deaths give the series the intensity, drama, emotions, and suspense that is needed. Even if fans did not see it coming and their hearts were broken, it adds to the series' intrigue. When death is sudden, there is a high chance that those deaths were easily avoidable.

10 Shisui Uchiha's Suicide Led the Series in a Different Direction (Naruto)

Shisui was born as a prodigy, a genius of his generation. Because of his mastery of the Body Flicker Technique, he acquired the nickname "Shisui of the Body Flicker." Shisui was assigned a mission, where he had to stop the coup d'état by using Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku Uchiha, leader of the Uchiha Clan. However, things do not go according to plan.

Danzo steals his right eye and, instead of going to Lord Hokage, he meets his friend Itachi, entrusting him with his left eye. He asks Itachi to protect the village and the name of the Uchiha Clan. And finally, he jumps off the cliff into the Naka River to kill himself. Fans would have loved to see him more in action and, his death was avoidable.

9 Sir Nighteye's Death Confirmed That The Future Can Be Altered (My Hero Academia)

In the anime series My Hero Academia, Mirai Sasaki, commonly known as Sir Nighteye, was a professional hero. He was once a sidekick to the Pro Hero All Might. He was regarded among the anime series' most intelligent characters.

He could foresee the future merely by touching the person. In his foresight, Sir Nighteye saw Midoriya getting killed by Overhaul, but as Midoriya overcame Overhaul, Sir Nighteye understood that "the future can always be changed." Although, Sir Nighteye died in the battle with Overhaul. Eri saved Midoriya but could not save Sir Nighteye. Sir Nighteye's death was impactful but avoidable.

8 Sasha Blouse Loved Children & Was Killed By A Child (Attack On Titan)

Sasha Blouse was a member of the 104th Survey Corps and a fan-favorite character in the Attack on Titan series. Sasha was a pleasant, outgoing girl with an insatiable appetite. Her huge appetite was due to her early childhood, hunting for food in jungles.Apart from that, she is an excellent soldier who will do anything to save his friends.

Even after being such a bold character, she was unable to kill civilians and especially children, which ultimately lead to her death at the hands of Gabi Braun, the child whose life she spared.

7 Maes Hughes Got Murdered; Being Too Smart Proved Harmful (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Maes Hughes was a main character in the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He generally seemed to be warm and welcoming in nature. He was a very close friend to Colonel Mustang.

He was killed by the Homunculus Envy at the phone booth. Before killing Hughes, Envy said: "He was too smart for his own life." He was nice, hilarious, comical, and clever all at the same time, but he was killed merely to make the saddest scene in the series.

6 Neji: The Hyuga's Prodigy Died Protecting Someone He Hated (Naruto: Shippuden)

In the fourth great ninja war, Neji was not supposed to die. The war was expected to result in casualties, but Neji, a member of the new generation, was not supposed to die at such a young age.

He died while protecting Hinata, who was shielding Naruto. Neji could have deflected the wooden spikes, but he did not, and the wounds proved to be fatal. The Hyuga hero died in Naruto's arms.

5 Tatsumi's Sacrifice Did Not Go To Waste (Akame Ga Kill)

During his confrontation with the Emperor, Tatsumi had sustained severe injuries. And trying to save the city even after the battle led to his death. Tatsumi's death hits hard as fans do not want him to die as he was the only member who had nothing to do with the rebellion.

He could have been saved if Wave helped, though that does not happen, and Tatsumi dies in Akame's arms, breaking the promise to come alive.

4 Escanor Burnt Himself Up To Save His Friends (Seven Deadly Sins)

Escanor was one of the most powerful characters in the Seven Deadly Sins series. He was Lion's Sin of Pride. He was the only one who was as strong as Meliodas, or even stronger.

Escanor helped the Seven Deadly Sins to defeat the Demon King. But to defeat the Demon King, he used his "The One" form. He got burnt away due to the excessive use of his power. Escanor's death symbolized his sin of Pride.

3 Ace's death was one of the saddest moments (One Piece)

Portgas D. Ace was the son of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. He was the Whitebeard Pirates' second-division commander. He ate Mera Mera no Mi, which gave him the Logia power of fire and was popularly known as "Fire Fist Ace."

During the Marineford arc, he was killed by Akainu while saving Luffy. The Marineford Arc revolved around saving Ace's life and, finally, it ended with Ace and Whitebeard's fatality. His death was one of the saddest moments and was completely avoidable as Whitebeard had sacrificed himself already.

2 L Was The Greatest Detective (Death Note)

L Lawliet, also known as L, was a character whose death was unexpected. Rem, the Shinigami, kills L by writing his name in the book when he gets too near to revealing Kira's identity.

L has a heart attack and collapses into Light's arms, revealing Light's smug grin and proving what he had suspected all along—that Light was, in fact, Kira. With the death of the main character so early in the anime, fans were utterly devastated.

1 Jiraiya Was the Legendary Sannin & Best Mentor Anyone Could Have (Naruto: Shippuden)

Jiraiya was Naruto's mentor and was called "Pervy Sage" by Naruto due to his perverted behavior. He died while fighting the leader of the Akatsuki organization, Nagato, also known as "Pain."

He could have been saved if he had a backup team or intel on Pain but, that was far from the reality. Despite this, he put up a good fight against Pain and acquired the intel needed. He passed away, but his memory lives on in the hearts of every fan of the series.
