General Motors released the full version of its Super Bowl ad featuring the cast of Austin Powers.
The 60-second spot sees Mike Myers' Dr. Evil, Seth Green's Scott Evil, Mindy Sterling's Frau Farbissina and Rob Lowe's Number 2 at the GM headquarters discussing climate change. We're also introduced to Scott's son, whom Dr. Evil dubs Baby Me before being told that his name is actually Kyle. The spot ends with Dr. Evil vowing to save the world in order to take it over.
"It really does feel like the band that has been playing together for 30 years," Green said. "Austin Powers is still one of the most globally recognized things I’ve done. There is a fan base for it. The only thing I know is that Mike took a very first-hand, personal interest in shaping the script so that it not only accurately represented the characters in the narrative, but also sold the product in a way that the company was happy with."
The Austin Powers franchise launched in 1997 with Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, serving as a parody of the James Bond franchise with Myers playing both the eponymous British super-spy and his arch-enemy Dr. Evil (as well as other characters). A sequel, subtitled The Spy Who Shagged Me, was released in 1999, and the franchise ended in 2002 with Austin Powers in Goldmember. However, director Jay Roach has previously discussed the possibility of adding a fourth Austin Powers film.
"I wouldn't say 'never never'... I'm always game for whatever [Mike Myers] wants to do," he explained in 2020. "It does depend on Mike having something that he's inspired about, and so far, after all these years, it hasn't quite clicked yet." Two years prior, Myers himself said, "They take a long time to write, they always have. Jay [Roach] has been super-crazy, he's doing a fantastic movie right now that he's working on. It's looking good."
Myers has also expressed interest in a Dr. Evil-centric film. "I would love to do a movie from Dr. Evil's perspective," he said in 2018. "So it would be Dr. Evil 1, Austin Powers 4 is how I would roll."
