Warner Bros. Games announced Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, a digital collectible card game that takes full advantage of the magical setting and characters.
While the official teaser trailer doesn't give much away in terms of mechanics, it provides a peek at the game's aesthetic. Fans will undoubtedly recognize cartoon versions of several beloved characters, including Harry, Ron and Hermione, as they encounter iconic creatures and locations from the series. Developer Netease notes that Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is a "free-to-play immersive collectible card MMO," which will also feature a "blend of strategy roleplay." Screenshots of the project reveal that players will be able to duel their peers, take on hordes of monsters, participate in fast-paced Quidditch matches and brew a variety of potions through a crafting system.
The cinematic trailer gives players a hint as to how they can expect the game's combat to function, illustrated by a Slytherin student summoning a small army of spiders while the defending Griffindor participants ignite and tie them up with different cards. New spells and charms can be unlocked as players progress through the game. Netease also confirmed that players will be able to design their own unique characters that can be customized with a variety of cosmetic items.
"With Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, we have worked jointly with NetEase Games to create the most robust multiplayer experience set in the wizarding world and we are very excited to launch the game globally,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “Harry Potter: Magic Awakened utilizes the best-in-class development and publishing capabilities of both NetEase Games and Warner Bros. Games to bring players a captivating gameplay experience with compelling features, an in-depth collectible card system and beautifully distinct art style.”
Beyond Magic Awakened, fans of the Wizarding World have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world RPG set in the iconic school and the surrounding areas, will whisk players away on a magical journey. Set 100 years before the events of the Harry Potter books, gamers will have to attend classes, fight terrible beasts and do their part in stemming the rising tide of darkness.
While Harry Potter: Magic Awakened does not yet have a release date, enthusiastic fans can pre-register for the game now, unlocking exclusive cosmetics when it formally launches.
