The Academic Oval at the University of the Philippines Diliman, a favorite outdoor spot of joggers, bikers, and families in the Quezon City area, officially reopened to the public on Monday, November 15 as more restrictions in Metro Manila are eased. The University's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs announced the reopening and released the official guidelines through a November 12 Facebook post.
As of November 14, the National Capital Region is under Alert Level 2 until November 30, meaning children and seniors can go outdoors for leisure while observing COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Here are the official safety guidelines for visiting the UP Academic Oval:
For joggers, walkers, and bikers
The Academic Oval will be open from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily to joggers, walkers, and bikers of all ages regardless of vaccination status. Counterclockwise direction must be followed and all individuals are required to wear face masks and observe health protocols at all times.
Bikers may use the following roads daily during the aforementioned hours:
- University Avenue
- Jacinto
- Lakandula
- Quirino
- Ma. Guererro
- Laurel Avenue
- Balagtas
- Magsaysay Avenue
Areas 1, 2, 3 and other residential areas on campus are off-limits to bikers.
For families and groups
Families or groups of 10 people or less may use the open spaces along University Avenue, Sunken Garden, and the Philippine Association of University Women from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Individuals must take their trash as they go.
