(SPOT.ph) If 2020 was all about dalgona coffee and sushi bake, 2021 is definitely all about lechon baka. Though the Filipino-style roast beef has been around way before this year, it rose to fame with the introduction of Andok's viral version, followed by many others that each bring their own respective strengths to the (dining) table. The beauty of the meat is that it tastes great by itself, but it's also totally versatile. Local burger shop Beefier is showing us just that: They recently introduced their new Smoked Beef Lechon which you can have a couple of ways, all of which are drool-worthy in their own right!

Lechon baka fans, you need to try the new Smoked Beef Lechon dishes at Beefier, stat.

By itself, the Smoked Beef Lechon lives up to the name, with subtly smoky meat that's seasoned just right to highlight the underlying flavor of the beef. It's said to be slow-cooked, roasted, and smoked in-house—resulting in a beautiful charred exterior that makes way to a succulent interior. And as you can expect with Beefier, you can taste the great-quality beef here with a good ratio of lean meat to fat.

For a more straightforward way to have your beef lechon fix, go for the Smoked Beef Lechon Plate (P440)—a dish of smoked beef lechon slices paired with your choice of jasmine rice or mashed potatoes (P50 additional), plus their own umami-rich lechon sauce (which we would totally pour on everything) and wholegrain mustard. The rice option comes with papaya salad for a vibrant bite that balances the beef's smokiness beautifully. If you go with the mashed-potato option, you also get toasted sticks of schiacciata bread for a subtle crunch amid the other homier elements.

The smoky beef slices are especially amazing in between bread, and Beefier's Smoked Beef Lechon Sandwich (P490) is an excellent eat that proves this point. We'd describe it as a cross between a roast beef sandwich and banh mi taken out for rustic Filipino-esque spin, being a substantial sandwich (it can be shared by two) with 180 grams of their smoked beef lechon, their lechon sauce, wholegrain mustard, and papaya salad in between schiacciata bread. Take a (big) bite and you'll see how smoky, savory, zingy, crisp, soft, and crusty worlds all come together for a whole that's way more than the sum of its parts.
