(SPOT.ph) When it comes to editing photographs or making illustrations, you might already have your go-to graphic design software. If not, you'll want to check out California-based Picsart, which is making a name for itself in the creative platform business, ranking 375th in Inc. Magazine's annual list of 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America. The ranking, called Inc. 5000, was released on August 25.

"This recognition reflects an exciting time of growth for our company. It’s evidence of our belief that everyone can be creative, and the success of our mission to empower creators everywhere. We’re excited to continue this momentum, grow our world-class team and technology, and deliver the best creative platform worldwide,” said Hovhannes Avoyan, founder and CEO of Picsart, in a statement.

A Short History of Picsart

Founded in November 2011, Picsart started out as a mobile app that people can use to edit photographs on their Android phone. An iOS version was released two years later; eventually, an online platform became available for Internet browsers in 2020.

On August 26, they announced that Picsart raised U.S. $130 million, which mostly came from the the world's largest technlogy-focused investment fund called SoftBank Vision Fund 2. Investors in this venture capital fund include tech companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Foxconn, as well as financial service companies like Standard Chartered and Mizuho Bank. Funding would mostly be used for expanding Picsart's artificial intelligence-driven technology and prosumer tools, exploring acquisitions, and building its world-class team.

“We expect growth in this space will continue as Millennials and Gen Z create e-commerce shops, market businesses, and build followings across platforms. As a leading visual content creation and editing platform serving the most engaged global creative community, we believe Picsart is well positioned to lead this growth,” said Serena Dayal, Investment Director at SoftBank Investment Advisors.

It has preset sizes for Instagram posts, Facebook layouts, YouTube images, and other much-needed layouts for posting on social media. Picsart also has ready-made templates, whch you can use for your posts. Its Create screen works the same way that Photoshop does when it comes to layer-by-layer editing with the added feature of automatically removing background images for portraits.
