(SPOT.ph) Manila is one of the most populated cities in Metro Manila. With some residents unable to afford proper housing, disadvantaged families resort to living as informal settlers under bridges, near riverbanks, or on the streets. In an effort to provide decent housing for Manileños, the city is currently looking to complete three housing projects: Tondominium 1 and 2, Binondominium residential building, and the townhouse-style horizontal housing project BaseCommunity. Of these, the 15-storey Tondominum 1 near Vitas in Tondo is expected to finish first in early 2022.

The condomium-style housing features 336 two-bedroom units that are 44 square meters each. Its interiors, shown through a model unit, were revealed in a Facebook post by the Manila Public Information Office on May 24.

"Alam ko po ang buhay ng nangungupahan at alam ko rin ang buhay ng isang squatter. Ngayon, nabigyan ako ng pagkakataong matupad ang pangarap ng mga nanay at tatay ninyong mga bata para sa inyo: disenteng tirahan, dahil gusto ko ibalik sa inyo ang dignidad sa pamumuhay," Moreno said in a public address.

The local government unit also inked a P10-billion loan agreement with the Development Bank of the Philippines to fund six infrastructure projects in the city. These include three schools (Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School, Rosauro Almario Elementary School, and Manila Science High School) and three residential buildings (Pedro Gil Residences, San Lazaro Residences, and San Sebastian Residences).

Moreno clarified that while the city's housing projects will prioritize underserved communities, they will also be available to renters.

"While 70% of this will be occupied by the poor, 30% of it will be occupied by renters. 'Yong mga nangungupahan, pwede na rin magkaroon ng sarili nilang tahanan. Pipilitin namin mayakap lahat," he added.
