(SPOT.ph) No trip to Japan is complete without visiting one of their many small cafés. You get to chill out in a laid-back but well-designed setting while treating your tastebuds to great cups of joe (and chatting up their baristas, too!). Locally, there are a couple of spots that deliver a similar experience—and we recently spotted a coffee stand that you can add to the list, especially if you're in San Juan. Check out Niseko Coffee at Promenade mall in Greenhills!

Here's the scoop on Niseko Coffee in Greenhills:

Niseko Coffee takes inspiration from a small coffeeshop in Niseko, Japan, that owner Diane Uy got to visit. "This is where I found the best iced latte I've ever had," she shares in an exchange with SPOT.ph. From there, she developed an interest in coffee brewing and Japanese coffee culture, and started researching about topics that include Japanese iced coffee, canned coffee, hand-drip pourover, and the like.

Located on the ground floor of Promenade 3 (beside Tuan Tuan), Niseko Coffee is a compact stall with a Japanese-esque minimalist theme—think clean white walls with wooden accents. "We try to practice the Japanese way of looking at things—minimalist, simple, [and] meaningful," shares Uy. You can order your coffee for takeout, but there are also a few seats in case you prefer to sip it on the spot.

The less-is-more philosophy extends to their menu, which is a short but sweet collection of espresso-based drinks and hand-drip coffee. "We use Japanese precision brewing," explains Uy. "Every ingredient is measured. We also make our own syrup and sauce from scratch." While their espresso uses single-origin local Arabica beans which Uy says are "roasted to our preference with notes of chocolate and caramel," Niseko Coffee also plans to feature other beans from different coffee-growing countries—starting with the Philippines—for their pour-overs.

The Japanese Iced Coffee (P180) is a stellar choice on a hot day, while the Niseko Signature Latte (P150/hot or iced) is a creamier, slightly-sweet way to get your coffee fix. A more playful drink on their roster is the Campfire Latte (P160/hot), which has espresso, milk, and a topping of torched marshmallow. If you must have your chocolate, go for the Dark Mocha Latte (P160/hot or iced) with espresso, milk, or melted dark chocolate; or the coffee-free Niseko Hot Chocolate (P165).

Niseko Coffee also has bottled brews, like the Classic Latte (P150/350 ml) and Niseko Signature Latte (P150/350 ml). To go with your drink, you can try the Taiyaki—Japanese fish-shaped pancake-like snacks, which they make fresh at their stall! Choose between Red Bean (P69), Sausage (P69), Cheese (P79), or Creamy Chicken (P79) flavors. You can also treat your sweet tooth with the Cream Cheese Pudding (P120).
