(SPOT.ph) Good ol’ roast chicken is the kind of dish that sounds simple on paper—it doesn’t quite scream extravagance like steak or decadence like fried chicken—but it can be truly amazing when done right, and it’s one of those eats that you can always rely on to give you a taste of home. One new shop highlights the said dish and does it really, really well: Say hello to Homestyle by RACKS, a new venture from the folks behind RACKS that'll be your new go-to for great roast chicken!

Homestyle by RACKS’ menu is as focused as you can get, with just one primary main dish: The Whole Homestyle Rotisserie Chicken (P975 with Roasted Marble Potatoes and Fresh Lemon Herb Sauce). One bite (or forkful) in and you’ll see why the Homestyle by RACKS team is proud of it: It’s as moist and tender as can be, falling easily off the bone. The flavorings are on the simple side—we detect lemon, possibly garlic, and a few basic herbs—but it hardly needs any embellishments, as it’s seasoned well and their minimal approach lets the natural flavor of the chicken (and its juices) shine.

The chicken is great as is, but should you be looking for an extra zip, go ahead and splash on some of the accompanying Fresh Lemon Herb Sauce—it’s similar to a chimichurri sauce, with a slightly tangy profile that brings each bite to life. Add the Roasted Marble Potatoes—which are cooked just right and have a welcome hint of garlic—and you've got the perfect meal.

They’ve got other sides on their roster, too, which you can order separately to go with the basic chicken set—though you can also opt to get a set of the chicken, sauce, roasted marble potatoes, and all these sides for P1,495. The Rotisserie Rice (P120) has a subtle garlicky profile that goes with the chicken’s slight tang, while the Aglio Olio with Anchovies (P180) gives you an umami bite and a kiss of mild heat. If you like it rich, go for the Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes (P180) that truly live up to the ‘creamy’ part of its name, or the crowd- (and kid-) pleasing Stovetop Cream Cheese Corn (P170).

The sides are no mere afterthought here.

“What inspired us was the need for a convenient, delicious, high quality rotisserie chicken that was just DM away, says Chukri Prieto, managing director/owner of Cavallino Inc. (a.k.a. RACKS). “We didn't want to reinvent the wheel. We just wanted people to experience our exceptional products without having to leave the comforts of their home during the pandemic." We think it’s safe to say they’ve totally achieved that.
