(SPOT.ph) Rabiya Mateo is now in the running for the coveted title of Miss Universe (never mind that we're the only planet vying for this intergalactic honor, but we digress). We can only imagine the pressure the Iloilo City local as she preps in the U.S.—her first time abroad, incidentally—for the main event on Sunday, May 16 (Monday morning on May 17 in the Philippines). But she still managed to drop a vibe check! She recently took to social media to remind folks that though her job calls for her to be a 100% glam all day every day, she is phenomenal no matter what. Cue the Maya Angelou feels.

You know those moments when you're finally prepping for bed after a long day and you need a bit of a boost? Just follow Mateo's lead!

Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo Posts a Message of Self-Love

She also posted the Tiktok on her Instagram accompanied by an inspirational message. Mateo acknowledged that she works "in a cruel industry." She is always compared to others, and literally everyone's a critic. A quick peek into the comments section of a social media post—in basically any context, not just the pageant world—proves that everyone's a critic, so you can imagine the type of comments people leave on posts of public figures, Mateo included.

"But then life is never superficial. It’s not always what’s attractive to our eyes but it’s the love we choose to build, the connection we make to people and how we want to celebrate ourselves!" Mateo said.

"Even in my simplest form, I know in my heart I am nothing less than phenomenal."

This time, the comments section on IG was full of appreciation for Mateo. Folks supported her message of self-love, as well as commended her on the no-makeup clip. We know some may find it hard to understand the significance of a no-makeup video, but trust us when we say it takes courage to put yourself out there, open for others to criticize—especially when you're competing for the Miss Universe title.
