(SPOT.ph) Filmmakers and scriptwriters Lav Diaz, Jeffrey Jeturian, Jerry Sineneng, Vincent de Jesus, Gian Abrahan, and Antoinette Jadaone have one thing in common. They've all been under the tutelage of scriptwriter and novelist Ricky Lee, whether it's his weekly workshops at his home-library, a masterclass at University of the Philippines - Diliman, or special sessions at ABS-CBN. This April, the award-winning writer is holding two online scriptwriting workshops through the Cinemalaya Institute Training Program. Both classes are free of charge.
The Cinemalaya Scriptwriting Masterclass, which runs for three hours on April 14 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., covers the foundations of storytelling for film. It is open to all Filipinos living here or abroad. All you have to do is register through their Google Form.
The Cinemalaya Intensive Scriptwriting Workshop, on the other hand, is a step-by-step class on the creation of a compelling narrative, starting from a simple story log to a full-fledged script. It has eight Wednesday sessions from May 26 to July 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applicants should submit a two-page storyline and a writer's intention. The workshop is selecting only 30 participants.
Both workshops are part of Cinemalaya's vision to continue pushing Philippine cinema by training and recognizing Filipino filmmakers.
