Hold Your "Simpleng Handaan," the Bakery Selling "Rice Cakes" Is Flooded With Orders

(SPOT.ph) Hotdog-on-stick with a marshmallow (just because), pancit, sweet spaghetti, lumpia, barbecue—and now, a literal rice cake? The typical Pinoy birthday party now has an added staple item thanks to the recent celebration of President Duterte, termed by his aide as a "simpleng pananghalian" and meme-d to hell by folks online. So if you want an equally showstopping centerpiece for your next happening, why not try a not-so-literal rice cake? Yup, a shop in Pasig City makes a cake shaped exactly like a cup of rice—though you may have to wait a while as they have already called for backup after an influx of orders.

Nicelybaked presented their take on the "Rice Cake" through a Facebook post on March 30, which promptly went viral. The "legit na cake hindi legit na rice" post has around 9,300 shares and 17,000 reacts as of writing.

The mound of "hot steaming rice" hides what seems to be red velvet with a chocolate filling, which arguably fits the "simpleng cake para sa mga simpleng handaan," description the shop wrote. And yes, you can definitely order the cake! It goes for P450; "ka-size ng lunchbox" at four inches by two inches, said the shop. You can choose between red velvet or chocolate, complete with chocolate ganache and buttercream frosting. It isn't your usual "Rice Cake," that's for sure. 

Unfortunately, you may want to hold your orders for now as it looks like the shop was promptly overwhelmed with queries after the post went viral. They posted late night on the same day that their inbox is full. "We had to extend our working hours to answer messages but there are still a lot to attend to," noted a "Nice" from Nicelybaked. "I am still in a state of shock with my post going viral and I appreciate that you noticed my ‘RICE CAKE.’"

Nicelybaked ended up calling it a day late into the night with a promise to "proceed in answering your inquiries again tomorrow." Well, today is "tomorrow" so exercise your patience when you try your luck at getting the cakes.
