Green Room gets Halloween 10th anniversary re-release with Slayground popcorn bucket

It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since Saulnier’s Green Room turned a punk band’s disastrous gig into one of the most brutal, nerve-shredding survival thrillers of the 2010s. The 2016 film is celebrating its 10th anniversary with special screenings at select Alamo Drafthouse locations nationwide on October 30, 2026. And there’s an extra reason for fans of Saulnier’s work to check it out: the event will feature an exclusive anniversary interview with Saulnier, Green Room cast members Alia Shawkat and Macon Blair, and special effects artist Mike Fontaine. Attendees will also receive a free, limited-edition popcorn bucket inspired by Slayground, Saulnier’s upcoming thriller scheduled to hit theatres on January 29, 2027.

Tickets are available through Alamo Drafthouse’s official website. Check the site for participating locations, showtimes, and availability.

Green Room Returns With a Special Menu and Anniversary Extras

Our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that the Green Room anniversary screenings will include a special A24 giveaway and a food and drink menu inspired by the film and its Pacific Northwest setting. The lineup includes:

  • Cowcatcher Loaded Mac: Cavatappi pasta with housemade Tillamook cheddar cheese sauce, seasoned ground beef, bacon, roasted peppers, onions, and mushrooms, finished with sriracha sour cream and sliced green onions.
  • Ain’t Right Pizza: A punk-inspired pizza featuring an herb-garlic oil base, pepperoni, Italian sausage, and Alamo’s cheese blend, topped with San Marzano tomato sauce, Parmesan, and ranch dressing.
  • Metal Marg: A cocktail made with Campo Bravo Tequila Plata, Midori melon, pineapple, lime, and agave, served with a Tajín rim and cucumber.

“Jeremy Saulnier is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today, with a knack for turning ordinary situations into white-knuckle occasions. His movies are visceral, relentless, and packed with the kind of tension that hits even harder on the big screen,” says Jake Isgar, a film programmer at Alamo Drafthouse. He adds that the theatre chain is thrilled to celebrate Green Room with a special screening, an exclusive giveaway, and punk-inspired food and cocktails.

What Is Green Room About?

Written and directed by Saulnier, Green Room follows a touring punk band whose gig at a remote Pacific Northwest venue takes a horrifying turn when the musicians witness a murder. Trapped backstage and surrounded by violent neo-Nazi skinheads determined to eliminate the witnesses, the band must fight to survive as the situation spirals into a brutal siege.

The film stars Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Macon Blair, and Patrick Stewart.

Green Room Leads Into Jeremy Saulnier’s Slayground

The anniversary event serves as a celebration of Saulnier’s genre filmmaking ahead of the release of Slayground, his next feature for A24. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on January 29, 2027, and its trailer revealed a thriller that appears to combine a fugitive-on-the-run story with a macabre Halloween setting.

Cory Michael Smith stars as “Metal Mike” Graves, a scare actor who wakes up inside a haunted attraction surrounded by the bodies of his coworkers, with no memory of what happened. As a statewide manhunt closes in, he races to uncover the truth, even if the evidence points back at him.

The cast also includes Imogen Poots, Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, Stephen Root, Young Mazino, Stanley Simons, James Badge Dale, and Matty Matheson. The film’s score comes from Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor.

Saulnier has previously described Slayground as being closer to the Green Room side of his filmmaking, saying that he was working on something “a little more in the Green Room universe” after exploring a different approach with Rebel Ridge. He also teased that the project would involve “music and Halloween and fun shit.”

Alamo Drafthouse will continue its Saulnier retrospective in early 2027 with screenings of Blue Ruin, Murder Party, and another opportunity to see Green Room on the big screen. Tickets for that retrospective are expected to become available in December.

For now, fans can revisit the film that put a punk band through hell and walk away with a Slayground popcorn bucket while they’re at it.
