WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Snowpiercer Season 3, Episode 8, "Setting Itself Right," now available on TNT.
Amid all the violence taking place in Season 3 of Snowpiercer, the show has been carving out more time to explore its romantic subplots, some for better and some for worse. Josie and Ben hooked up (although their relationship is probably doomed or starting a whole other love triangle), while LJ and Oz got married. It suggested there might be some happy endings out there, however complicated.
However, one relationship that fizzled was between Mr. Wilford and his concubine Audrey. After his brush with death he found new purpose, while Audrey wanted to embark on redemption away from him. She may be starting up a new romance with someone entirely different from Wilford, but her moving on could create a fresh wave of turmoil for everyone on the locomotive and the next dramatic twists in Snowpiercer's third season.
Sparks began to fly between Audrey and Till, Layton's general and detective extraordinaire. The duo were friends in the past -- before Till hated Audrey for turning on them and selling out the train to Wilford. Following the villain's ousting, though, Till gave Audrey a second chance after Layton was put into a coma. She convinced Audrey to use her therapy to bring Layton back, and Audrey realized how lonely and broken Till was, especially with Jinju seemingly dying in a pandemic. She offered to help her heal, too, and Till was receptive to the idea after all the drama.
She took Audrey up on the offer after Wilford convinced Layton and Alex to head to France to find Melanie. The train had to power through volcanic ash, which prompted everyone to hole up in their rooms. Anxiety and claustrophobia kicked in for Till, causing Audrey to take care of her. It was a very intimate moment between familiar folks that wasn't surprising given how well they knew each other, but it also exuded something more than platonic.
Eventually, Till asked Audrey to stay with her and they wound cuddling in the way a couple would. From their glances at one another, they were clearly holding back, so it feels like a matter of time before they act on their apparent attraction. However, Wilford -- and his ego -- is likely to cause a problem for them if they do. The problem is, He looks down on Till for being Layton's lapdog, and he was upset she didn't rally the Brakemen to his side. Knowing she's with Audrey will hurt him and could inspire him to get revenge.
There's another layer of trouble to worry about, too, because it's not likely Layton would want Audrey in his inner circle either. Audrey's betrayal cost the rebels a lot of innocent lives. Due to Audrey's sketchy past, Till may have to choose between love and duty soon enough, which could ultimately rob her of her one shot at happiness. Maybe there aren't happy endings in the Snowpiercer universe after all.
See how Wilford copes with Till and Audrey's budding romance in Season 3 of Snowpiercer, which airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TNT.
