Wellington Paranormal is a popular spinoff series of the What We Do in the Shadows film. The show follows Karen O'Leary, Mike Minogue and Maaka Pohatu, members of the Wellington police force's paranormal division, as they deal with supernatural events and figures. Minogue and O'Leary reprise their roles from What We Do in the Shadows.

What We Do in the Shadows creators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi previously suggested that the future of the series was uncertain past Season 4. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clement said, "We're pausing on [Wellington Paranormal], we're not sure we'll be back for a fifth season." The spinoff series has enjoyed moderate success since its release and debuted in the U.S just last year on The CW and on HBO Max.

Following the release of the spinoff, What We Do in the Shadows got its own series, which began in 2019. It did not, however, feature the return of the show's creators as their famous vampire characters. The mockumentary film, which was released in 2014, starred Clement and Waititi as Vladislav the Poker and Viago Von Dorna Schmarten Scheden Heimburg, respectively. It is based on a the pair's 2005 short film, What We Do In The Shadows: Interviews With Some Vampires.

The full-length film is notable for gaining Waititi recognition as a filmmaker. He followed the project up with bigger hits, including 2016's Hunt for the Wilderpeople and 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, all of which were critically acclaimed and introduced mainstream audiences to Waititi's signature style of comedy and direction.

Waititi is currently directing Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth installment in Marvel Studios' Thor franchise. The film will see the return of fan-favorites Thor and Valkyrie, as well as actor Natalie Portman, who will be reprising the role of Jane Foster. In addition, Foster will be given the power of the God of Thunder and wield the mighty Mjolnir.

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022.
