Marin finally gets to show off her first cosplay in the latest My Dress-Up Darling art drop.
The popular rom-com anime's chief animation director, Jun Yamazaki, revealed a new look at the series' most recent episode on their personal Twitter account. In addition to posting several key frames from the episode's production, Yamazaki also shared an all new color illustration of Marin in the Shizuku-tan costume that Gojo made for her.
My Dress-Up Darling has become the surprise hit of the Winter 2022 anime season, with the character of Marin Kitagawa becoming especially popular since the anime adaptation's debut. The team behind the series seem to share the fandom's love of the character as well, as in addition to Yamazaki, several other animators and designers working on the series have also been sharing their own art of the aspiring cosplayer. Previous art drops include Yamazaki's original revealing look at the character, as well as a showcase of the various outfits Marin wore throughout the first four episodes of the series.
The show tells the story of Wakana Gojo, a shy high school student who has dedicated his life to creating traditional Japanese-style figures, known as Hina dolls. Gojo has gone through most of his adolescence without having a single friend, but that all changes when he meets Marin Kitagawa, an outgoing classmate who is one of the most popular girls at his school. The two form an unlikely friendship afterMarin discovers that Gojo's doll-crafting skills can be used to help her achieve her dream of cosplaying all of her favorite anime and video game characters.
The series is based on a manga by the same name, which was created by author and artist Shinichi Fukuda. The TV adaptation is being produced at animation studio CloverWorks (The Promised Neverland, Horimiya), which is also producing two other series airing during this anime season, the action-packed Tokyo 24th Ward and the slice-of-life series Akebi's Sailor Uniform. The anime is being helmed by director Keisuke Shinohara, who previously worked on Little Witch Academia. The series stars Shoya Ishige (Haikyuu!!) as the voice of Gojo and Hina Suguta (Bang Dream! Garupa Pico: Omori) as Marin. The anime has been praised for its cast of relatable, well-developed characters and its depiction of the art of cosplay and the subculture surrounding it.My Dress-Up Darling is currently being simulcast by Crunchyroll and Funimation, with new episodes premiering every Sunday. The original manga is available in English, in both print and digital formats, from publisher Square Enix.
