The world of anime is packed with a dazzling variety of characters, and some characters fit well-established trends such as being a tsundere or being a goofy but lovable shonen protagonist. Other characters, meanwhile, are known for certain visual gags or tropes, some of which don't even have clear origins.
A good example is a trend of having anime characters who keep both eyes hidden most or all of the time. While some characters wear eyepatches, others hide both eyes for one reason or another, such as to restrain their incredible power or simply because they really like their sunglasses or visors.
10 Satoru Gojo Hides His Dazzling Blue Eyes (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Satoru Gojo the powerhouse sorcerer is known for many things, from his carefree and goofy attitude to his role as protagonist Yuji Itadori's mentor and his incredible Mugen domain expansion. Satoru is seemingly invincible, and it's all thanks to the power behind those eyes.
Ordinarily, Satoru keeps his eyes concealed behind a black leather blindfold, and most sorcerers are used to seeing him that way. He might sometimes wear stylish sunglasses, though, and if he gets serious in a fight, his eyes will finally be revealed.
9 Captain Kaname Tosen Wears Visors (Bleach)
Captain Kaname Tosen of squad 9 claims that justice means everything and that following the traitorous Captain Aizen would lead to true justice somehow. Justice or not, Kaname is known for his sensory-based techniques, including his shikai and bankai. He can even make his opponent blind and deaf with his bankai to disorient them.
Tosen doesn't need to see to fight. He is completely blind, and can easily track his enemies with spiritual pressure and hearing alone. To that end, he always wears a shiny silver visor, and when he defected to Aizen's cause, he was seen with a newer, slimmer visor.
8 Shino Aburame Won't Show His Eyes (Naruto)
Shino Aburame is a member of the informal "Konoha 11" and a part of Team 8, along with Kiba Inuzuka and Hinata Hyuga. From the very start, Shino has been a quiet, serious, and rather mysterious ninja who uses his family's hiden technique of wielding chakra beetles.
Shino likes to hide his eyes whenever possible, first with circular sunglasses, later with modest goggles, which only strengthens his aura of mystery. Shino also tended to keep his mouth hidden in his youth, but as an academy instructor in Boruto, his mouth was finally visible. Not his eyes, though.
7 Willibald Sometimes Hides His Eyes Behind His Hair (Vinland Saga)
Willibald was a friar in the story of Vinland Saga, and he intrigued Thorfinn and other characters with his unique opinion on what love really is. He claimed that traditional love for a person or object is discriminatory, since anything not being loved is being left out.
Instead, true love means a person is willing to die and return to the cycle of all things in the world, such as a body decomposing to provide nutrients for new growth. Willibald explained all this while hanging onto a small barrel of wine and keeping his eyes hidden behind his shaggy hair. He later got a haircut in the manga, though.
6 Kotaro Tatsumi Loves His Sunglasses (Zombie Land Saga)
Zombie Land Saga is a humorous take on the pop idol anime genre, where the protagonist, Sakura, got hit and killed by truck-kun, only to awaken as a zombie ten years later. She and six other girls are all brought together to form a new pop idol group in the Saga prefecture, and their boss is the energetic Kotaro Tatsumi.
Kotaro explained very little about himself or how he brought the seven girls back to life as the undead, and he even keeps his eyes hidden to deepen the mystery. He sometimes wears costumes or funny props, but those sunglasses never go away. Sakura has yet to meet Kotaro's eyes.
5 Haumea Wears A Crown-Visor (Fire Force)
The Cult of the Ashen Flame is a doomsday cult dedicated to gathering the Eight Pillars to launch another cataclysm and burn down the entire world, and it's up to the eight fire soldier companies to stop them. The mysterious Evangelist commands many minions, most of whom hide their eyes.
It's not entirely clear why most of the cultists hide their eyes or entire face, but they do, and that includes the playful but brutal cultist Haumea. She wears a crown as a visor and never takes it off. In fact, she wore a smaller version as a child. Never does she show her eyes.
4 Present Mic Keeps His Shades On (My Hero Academia)
From time to time, My Hero Academia viewers got to see Present Mic's eyes from the side, but only brief glimpses. As a whole, the U.A. teacher Present Mic keeps his eyes totally hidden behind his rad sunglasses, and he often covers his ears with headphones as well.
All this fits Present Mic's DJ theme, and it's a part of his hero costume, too. No villain will ever look directly into Present Mic's eyes during battle, and at this rate, neither will his students.
3 Shun Ibusaki Has Long Bangs (Food Wars!)
Some anime characters, such as Willibald, don't even mean to cover their eyes, but their long bangs hide their eyes from other characters and the viewer alike. Another example of this is the culinary student Shun Ibusaki, a minor supporting character in Food Wars!.
Shun's eyes are nearly always hidden behind his shaggy bangs, and only rarely will his eyes be seen, such as when he is shocked by a plot twist. As his appearance suggests, Shun is also a quiet and reserved boy who doesn't do a lot of emoting. As for his cooking style, he's all about using smoke as an extra ingredient.
2 Sadi Has Rather Long Hair (One Piece)
Sadi is a torturer in the Impel Down prison, and her name is likely short for "sadistic." She is a playful but cruel antagonist who thinks that shrieks and wails of pain are like seductive music, and she did whatever she could to help Magellan find and capture Luffy to help protect the prison's reputation.
As for her appearance, Sadi is a tall and curvy lady with a skimpy pink leather outfit, complete with candle-shaped earrings, two horns on her head, and claw-like fingernails. She also has long, wavy blonde hair that hides her eyes at all times.
1 Charon Has A Blindfold On (Fire Force)
Haumea isn't the only Fore Force villain who hides her eyes. There's also her handler Charon, a brawny fellow who always wears a blindfold with the distinct red cross of the Cult marked on it. He has yet to be seen without it.
Charon can evidently see just fine with his eyes hidden, and his combat style is based on absorbing the enemy's heat and using it himself. He is a second-generation pyrokinetic, which is what allows him to easily manipulate and absorb his enemy's heat energy.
