(SPOT.ph) There’s nothing like shopping in person, especially when it comes to fashion. Clothes just hit different when you can feel the fabric on your skin and see how the item drapes on your body. Creative director June Bastida agrees; that’s why he set up The Neighborhood Goods flagship to carry the brand’s merch as well as other Filipino streetwear brands. On top of that, he also wants to inspire the next generation of creatives to be a part of the community.
“We stay true to our name, that everyone is welcome here. We will always go out of our way to greet customers and make everyone feel welcome, regardless if you are already familiar [with the scene] or if you’re new to the community,” says Bastida. “We have and always will be people-based,” he said in an e-mail interview.
For Bastida himself, his brands The Neighborhood Goods and Killing It Daily are inspired by everyday life—music and pop-culture merch that riff on themes that are either trendy or nostalgic. Whichever direction he swings towards, he is unmistakably of the moment. How else could a physical store expand in the middle of a pandemic?
Meet the Neighbors
The first iteration of the store included a barbershop and was opened in November 2017. Bastida eventually rebranded and opened the shop in its current form in May 2021 as solely a retail outlet, a one-stop shop for streetwear. Aside from Bastida’s own labels, they also stock Cebuano brands Velo7 Cartel, Dimebag, and Good Habits Cartel. The former is technical cycling gear, while the latter have cheeky graphic tees that’ll definitely stand out when you want to stunt for the ‘Gram.
There’s also Organic Lifestyle whose name should already clue you in. Their current collection features high-contrast designs and, of course, organic forms. Pseudoperfection has a catchy name that’s made it to Manila via the Pursuit Fair. Its designs focus on basketball codes.
These labels aren’t limited to T-shirts, even if those are the majority. They also have smaller items like caps, socks, totes, bags, and even stickers.
The Neighborhood Goods also carries Manileño brands that you may already be familiar with, such as Don't Blame The Kids, Off High Clothing Co., Undrafted, and Wasted Story. There’s also the Pampanga-based fixture Revel.
