This style of chicken is loved for its especially crunchy character, thanks to its being double-fried. Samsam Chikin
Coming from the Happyfoods Group of Restaurants (a.k.a. the folks behind Sariwon Korean Barbecue, Soban K-Town Grill, and Sibyullee Unlimited Korean BBQ), Samsam Chikin makes some of the crunchiest Korean fried chicken around that stays amazingly crisp for hours. This is available as boxes of just the chicken (starts at P300/medium) or rice meals (P99/one piece, P165/two pieces), with your choice of flavor. Go for the Honey Butter or Honey Soy for a slightly-sweet bite, or the Soy Garlic that’s peppered with garlic chips for a hint of pungency. Like it fiery? The sweet-spicy Yangnyeom’s ingeniously got peanut bits for added texture, while the bold-red Gochujang is all about that umami and heat. Yang Gang’s Korean fried chicken (starts at P165/small meal box with rice or P249/solo chicken box) goes for a crackly crust that makes resounding crunch as you sink your teeth in, making way to a juicy center. They’ve got quite the flavor selection—from the plain but not boring OG, to the sweet-umami Soy Garlic, to the spicy Fire OG, to the Japanese-eque Curry, and even to the smoky-tangy BBQ and more. Sure doesn’t hurt that they also serve their chicken with what they call the OG crack, a rich and creamy cheese sauce you can dip your chicken into. Chef Park’s
For Korean fried chicken that’s seasoned well both inside and out, and that’s on the right side of crispy without being too hard on the teeth, Chef Park’s has got your back. Their flavor range includes Korean classics, like the spicy Yangnyum (starts at P295) and deeply savory Soy Garlic (starts at P295)—but you also don’t want to miss the less-traditional but totally tasty Garlic Parmesan (starts at P295), zesty Korean Buffalo (P295), and sweet-aromatic Truffle Honey (starts at P325). BOK Korean Fried Chicken
Granted, BOK opened just a few months shy of our one-year limit for this list (July of 2020, to be exact)—but their Korean fried chicken’s so good that we’re including them anyway. It’s properly crispy despite being drenched in sauce, and oh, how punchy and flavorful those sauces are. You can choose from their signature flavors (starts at P119/solo) like the classic Yangnyeom (available mild or spicy), well-balanced Soy Garlic and bright Honey Lemon; or the premium flavors (starts at P129/solo) like the Snow Cheese and the Yangnyeom with Garlic. K-MAC
K-MAC hails from Laguna but has an outpost in Quezon City. They use the wing part for their chicken (P199/half-dozen, P389/one dozen); it's the kind that isn’t as heavily breaded as the others, but that doesn’t keep it from being totally crave-worthy! Their short yet ample lineup includes the savory K-MAC Chickin, the spicy Yangnyeom, the sweet Butter Honey, and the cheese-drenched Chijeu Chickin.
