(SPOT.ph) Following MalacaƱang's announcement that Metro Manila is shifting to Alert Level 3 from Alert Level 4 starting on October 16, the Department of Tourism affirmed that staycation hotels may resume accepting guests for leisure purposes.

"We welcome the easing of restrictions under the current alert level. The resumption of tourism-related activities in select areas will not only aid hotels and establishments in gradually earning revenue, but will also translate into the restoration of jobs for our displaced tourism workers, especially now that the holiday season is fast approaching," Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said on Thursday, October 14.

These staycation hotels are allowed to operate at 100% capacity under Alert Level 3, as long as they have a Safety Seal certification. This is a voluntary certification program granting accreditation to establishments that are compliant with health and safety standards and are using the StaySafe mobile app. Only guests 18 years old and above and are fully vaccinated are allowed to book their Metro Manila staycation.

On the other hand, attractions like museums, galleries exhibits, parks, plazas, public gardens, and scenic viewpoints; amusement parks or theme parks; recreational values like Internet cafƩs, billiard halls, amusement arcades, bowling alleys, skating rinks, archery halls, and swimming pools; and cinemas are given the go signal to open at a 30% indoor capacity for fully vaccinated individuals. Outdoor venues can open to as much as 50% capacity as long as guests are fully vaccinated. Workers of these establishments are also required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Puyat also explained that these establishments get additional 20% capacity since the National Capital Region already vaccinated at least 70% of the priority groups (senior citizens and people with comorbidity). In addition, places with a Safety Seal get another 10% operational capacity. This means that indoor establishments can open to as much as 60%, while outdoor venues have up to 80% breathing room (pun intended).
