(SPOT.ph) We've waxed poetic about the Korean food trend known as egg drop sandwiches. These loaded sandwiches rose to fame with their appearance on the K-Drama Hospital Playlist, which led to local sellers here in Manila cooking up and selling their own drool-worthy versions! Egg drop sandwiches take well to all sorts of filling variations, too; the most basic version has eggs (often scrambled), ham, and cheese along with different sauces on thick slices of bread (usually brioche), but we recently spotted truly standout takes that brings the sandwich to even more indulgent heights. Sunny Side's Truffle Steak Egg Drop Sandwich (P259) gives you savoriness through and through, with steak slices and a truffle sauce contributing a meaty bite and earthy, umami sort of depth to custardy scrambled eggs. Cradled by buttery brioche slices and given extra flavor with their savory-tangy-sweet egg-drop sauce, this sandwich is then topped with cheese that's torched just a tad for a creamy texture. You'll want to open wide for this one to get a little of everything in each bite and get the full-on sensation as these ingredients come together!
If it's seafood you seek, you can also go for their Soft Shell Crab Egg Drop Sandwich (P289). Here, deep-fried whole soft shell crabs give you a crispy, briny contrast against the soft scrambled eggs, crisp and fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and their egg-drop sauce—definitely worth a try, too.
