(SPOT.ph) Filing of Certificates of Candidacy for the upcoming 2022 Philippine general election runs from October 1 to 8. Up to 77 national positions are open, from president to party-list representatives; and more than 10,000 seats are up for contention in the local level. Without any fuss, Mayor Vico Sotto filed his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for reelection in Pasig within the first few hours that the Commission on Elections office in the city opened. The 32-year-old mayor was accompanied by his parents, Coney Reyes and Vic Sotto.
"Nag-file na po ako kaagad ng CoC para tapos na, di naman kailangan ng drama at suspense," he said in a post.

Sotto ran for mayor in 2019 under the Aksyon Demokratiko party and ended the 27-year dynasty of the Eusebios. But unlike his first mayoralty bid as an independent, he will now run with a vice mayor (former Pasig Representative Robert "Dodot" Jaworski Jr.) and a full council slate, including Angelu De Leon.
The mayor's plate was already full within the first year of his term, having to deal with a global pandemic less than a year after he was sworn into office.
He hopes to continue another term as mayor to make up for the lost time because of COVID-19.
Sotto first entered politics as a member of Pasig's City Council in 2016. As a councilor, he pushed for the Pasig Transparency Mechanism Ordinance, the first-ever local version of the freedom of information law in Metro Manila. He graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He later completed a Master of Arts in Public Management at the Ateneo School of Government in 2018.
The Commission on Elections is implementing strict health protocols in all CoC venues, which is why crowd-gathering is avoided.
