(SPOT.ph) Voter's registration for the 2022 national elections started on January 20, 2020, but the back-and-forth in strict quarantine status caused unforeseen suspension in on-site processing. Satellite registration offices in areas under enhanced community quarantine remained close for months in 2020, then again in the early part of 2021. And as the registration period comes to a close on September 30, another round of lockdown upended people's plans to register for the first time or transfer their voter's location. This situation doesn't change for Metro Manila, which shifts from enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to modified ECQ from August 21 until August 31. Voter's registration remains suspended in all areas under ECQ and MECQ.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is also not moving the deadline, despite calls by lawmakers and youth groups to extend voter's registration for at least a month. COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez cited "concerns about the timeline of preparations for the 2022 national and local elections, as well as significant continuing apprehensions about the health and safety of the public and of COMELEC personnel" should they extend.
However, the Commission is implementing longer registration hours in areas under general community quarantine or modified general community quarantine. Schedule for enlistment will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday and during holidays. This new rule starts on August 23 and is expected to be in place until the last day of registration on September 30.
COMELEC also said on August 11 that voters with deactivated accounts for failing to vote in two consecutive elections may reactivate through e-mail. This, however, applies only to PWDs and senior citizens.
