Make Legit Espresso Minus the Bulky Machine With This Portable Device

(SPOT.ph) With coffee-shop visits having become increasingly infrequent amidst the pandemic, both casual and diehard caffeine addicts have invested in espresso machines and manual brewers to whip up their own cups of joe at home. You, a mere mortal dependent on a cup of coffee to get you through a long work day, may be thinking of doing the same. However, most commercial brewing devices can be pretty pricey, not to mention bulky—not exactly ideal if you live in a small condo or are mostly just brewing up batches for yourself. If you're looking for something more compact and more likely to fit your budget, we'd like to introduce you to the amazing Leverpresso from HUGH Inc. Originally a Kickstarter-funded project, it’s a portable coffee-making device that lets you manually brew espresso in a flash. It’s available locally from online store The Object Depot.

Here's how the Leverpresso coffee maker works:

Though this all-in-one device can be assembled into one travel-friendly contraption—just about the size of a large jar—it actually separates into several parts, all of which work together to help you whip up a strong, flavorful espresso. You get the main body (comprised of a cylinder, the top levers, and a plunger), a small cup, a tamper, a basket filter, a spout, and a cap.

To use the device, start by filling up the basket filter with espresso-fine coffee grounds then using the tamper to compress the grounds—the same way you would when using an industrial machine.

From there, attach the basket onto the bottom of the body along with the cup underneath to catch your finished brew. Make sure the levers up top are positioned downwards then pour boiling water into the main chamber. When you’re ready, you can push down on both levers—as you exert pressure, the hot water will be pushed through your grounds and slowly drip into the cup underneath. The Leverpresso provides about nine bars of pressure, which is about the minimum level you need to whip up a real espresso. The pushing-down process should take about 20 seconds. Once you're finished, detach the cup and you'll find a freshly brewed espresso inside ready for drinking!
