One of the usual pre-employment requirements asked of job candidates is a police clearance. It's a document issued by the Philippine National Police that proves a person has no criminal record.

Along with the NBI clearance and several government-issued IDs, Filipinos can also apply for their National Police Clearance online.

What is a police clearance?

It shows that a person has no criminal or derogatory record based on the Philippine National Police's (PNP) database. Many employers ask for it as a pre-employment requirement and sometimes, it's also honored as a valid ID.

Does it expire?

A police clearance is valid for six months, and then a person needs to renew it by applying for it again if needed.

What are the requirements for application online?

You need to present two valid IDs that contain the applicant's complete name, clear photo, and signature. If you only have one valid ID, the PNP will accept this provided that you have a certified true copy of your birth certificate (with original official receipt).

How to apply?

  1. Go to the National Police Clearance System website.
  2. Click on register and tick the boxes needed.
  3. Set an online appointment by clicking on the "clearance application" button. Select the nearest police station to you where you can get your clearance. Choose your preferred date and time too.
  4. Select payment option, click on "Landbank of the Philippines" and then save your appointment. Take note of the details of your police clearance application such as the reference number.
  5. Pay for your police clearance which is priced at P150. You need to pay an additional P10 as a transaction fee. You can pay via GCash, LandBank, and 7-Eleven.
  6. Go to the police station of choice and present your two valid IDs, reference number, and receipt of payment.
  7. Undergo biometrics capturing and verification. If your name doesn't have a hit, your police clearance will be released immediately. If there is a hit, another verification process will be done.
  8. Verify your police clearance through the website.
