No one does over-the-top retro glam like La Vie in the Sky. Every corner is a moment waiting to be snapped for the ‘Gram. The eclectic mix of Art Nouveau posters, mid-century decor mingling with the chintzy Baroque accents all contribute to the luxurious excess that is driving up to La Vie in the Sky to quietly take in the view. Share a bottle of ice-cold bubbly (around P445) and enjoy it with a freshly baked pizza. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch their famous P15 chocolate truffles on display. If you get multiple flavors, it can be quite the guessing game. They’re arranged on a plate sans label, of course. Pop them right in and see which one you get. You’ll have to go back to order another round if you missed your favorites.

La Vie in the Sky is at Cebu Tops Road, Cebu City. For more information, visit their website

Serenity Mountain Cafe has a spacious viewing deck for you and your date to enjoy the sweeping panorama of mountains, so it’s best to go just before sunset. The space itself is airy and unpretentious, and this philosophy is reflected in its menu. The open-air cafĂ© is cute enough for a first date, but its menu lends itself more to more established connections.

Order from its intercontinental favorites without hesitation—Hot Shrimp Salad (P460), Buffalo Chicken Wings (P360), Sizzling Beef Salpicao (490), and even Bam-i (P310)—that Cebuano party- or picnic-mainstay, a mix of pancit canton and glass noodles. Cap the meal with a decadent slice of Burnt Basque Cheesecake (P260) paired with the Serenity Special Tablea (P100) or a Flavored Latte (P130/single, P150/double).

Serenity Mountain Cafe at Sitio Tiguib, Barangay Malubog, Busay, Cebu City, about 30 minutes away from JY Square Mall. For more information, contact 0917-726-0776 or visit their Facebook page.

There’s also a Half and Half Pizza (P375) option, where you can pick any two pizza flavors of your choice. After months under lockdown, Delice rebranded and reopened as Vue by Delice in September 2020. They spruced up the interiors and added some color to the space, but you can still find them in the same great location with the same romantic view. It’s a great spot to enjoy the sparkling city lights.

The food part of Vue's extensive revamped menu are the owner Joaquin Moras and his wife's faves—but with her spin on the preparation. He recommends the Mediterranean Fish Fillet (P350) for seafood lovers, featuring Asian sea bass fillets topped with onions, olives, tomatoes, and capers. But if you want to order something for the 'Gram, it’s the thick and perfectly golden pancakes you should get. A stack of three starts at P200, and you can choose from flavors like Apple Pie (P230), Red Velvet (P250), and Bananas Foster (P230). You can even go the savory route and have it with Bacon and Eggs (P250). Have them for breakfast or dessert—take your pick.

Vue by Delice is at Transcentral Highway, Busay, Cebu City. For more information, visit their Facebook page

Woods Smokehouse's industrial interiors are rugged but softened with touches of wooden elements and bare lights. It’s like hanging around a friend’s rooftop, albeit one with a gorgeous view of the city.

From the name alone, you’d expect steakhouse staples like the Smoked Bacon (P265), Smoked Beef Brisket (P445), and Smoked Beef Ribs (P950). If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try the Sour Spiced Grilled Belly (P400) and Sausage and Mussels Orecchiette Pasta (P395). The food here has no MSG, so you know they don’t rely on flavor enhancers.

End your dining adventure with the deep flavors of dark chocolate and liquor in the Bitter Woods Cake (P210) that melts in your mouth. If you want to go with a classic, try their version of S’mores—the Campfire Mallows (P155)—that you toast over a fire. Best enjoyed with a cup of Hot Classic Tableya (P110) in your hands.

Woods Smokehouse is open everyday at 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is at Cebu Transcentral Highway, about 31 minutes away from JY Square Mall. For more information, contact 0917-324-5164 or visit their Facebook page.

With its sprawling garden and the view of the water—the namesake lake—it’s no wonder that Lakeview Le Jardin is the new place on everyone’s Busay date night bucket list. There's an entrance fee of P50 to enter the botanical garden, which can also be booked as a venue for events.

A “limited special,” the Pan-Seared Seabass with Pumpkin Risotto (P375) is quite the treat—for the eyes as well. The fish is set atop saffron-yellow rice and garnished with cilantro. The Lakeview Burger (P465) is made with an Angus beef patty with house-smoked bacon and all the usuals—lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions—on brioche buns. And if you love a pun, be sure to get one of their makali-pies! The dessert special comes in lemon-pistachio (P165), Oreo (P165), S’mores (P165), and Banoffee (P185). Didn’t that put a smile on your face?
