(SPOT.ph) Remember the good ol' pre-pandemic days, when summers meant taking a trip to Siargao and frolicking under the sun the whole day? Vacations at the island were always made more memorable with a visit to Shaka Cafe—the all-day breakfast spot known for their fresh smoothie bowls and sandwiches. You're likely staying within the Metro now for safety reasons, but the good news is that you don't have to travel too far to get your Shaka Cafe fix. They've recently opened a branch at Burgos Circle!
Shaka Cafe's Burgos Circle branch has a bright, laid-back vibe that'll put your stressed-out self at ease with its white walls, furniture in earth tones, and plants for a pop of color. They've also got an al-fresco dining area if you'd like to have your Shaka-Cafe fix amid the cool outdoor breeze.
Don't know where to start? You can't go wrong with Shaka Cafe's bestselling Bom Dia bowl (P300), which will invigorate you with acai, banana, mango, pineapple, and mixed berries in the mix. Another fruity bowl option is the Bakunawa (P300), which brings together dragonfruit, banana, pineapple, berries, and mangosteen juice. For a richer treat that's still on the good-for-you end of the spectrum, go for the Cloud 9 Kook bowl (P300)—its combo of banana, peanut butter, cacao, and coconut milk is practically a dessert, but it won't leave you feeling bogged down.
You'll want to try Shaka Cafe's other all-day breakfast eats. The Stack (P350) is a great savory option with grilled mushrooms, avocado, roasted tomato, beetroot, spinach, and a sweet potato hash, while the Pinkakes (P300)—their take on pancakes—will sate any hankerings you have for flapjacks. They've also got multi-layered Bliss Cups that include the Chia Pudding (P250) with chia seeds, coconut cream, mango, banana, and dragonfruit.
Looking for a savory and more filling bite? Shaka Cafe's has you covered on that front, too. Open up your meal with their Smokey Nachos (P330) that has pulled jackfruit, salsa, vegan cheese, and guacamole, before going ham on their famous vegan Sloppy Jose sandwich (P380) with dos rojo y blanco frijol patties plus ingredients that'll bring on the Latin-American vibes with every bite. And for mains, you'll want to try the one-of-a-kind Mango & Red Bean Curry (P300) or Mushroom Stroganoff (P420).
Shaka Cafe is also known for their drinks, which include smoothies like the Tropoloco (P220) with pineapple, mango, banana, and young coconut; kombucha like the Passion Fruit & Mango (P180); coffee like the Coco Iced Coffee (P150) or cold brew with coconut milk; and cocktails like the Mango Margarita (P260). Yup, there's something for you here pretty much any time of the day (within their opening hours, of course)—and you get to have a taste of Siargao without having to leave the Metro.
Shaka Cafe is at Burgos Circle, Taguig City. For more information, check out Shaka Cafes' Facebook page.
