"Coming very soon" to the Philippines, the new feature that has been rolled out in some countries already allows users to share up to four pronouns selected from a pre-approved list that includes he, she, they, and ze, Instagram Product Marketing Lead for Asia-Pacific, Alexander de Leon, confirmed to reportr.

In the past, Instagram has been criticized for censoring members of the LGBTQ+ community for banning ads and taking down images without so much explanation.

Companies as big as Instagram are often told by advocates that they could always do more to support the community, such as ensuring company diversity by hiring more members of the community and having inclusive company policies that respect gender diversity.

With the upcoming feature, users are free to edit or remove pronouns and may also fill out a form to have a pronoun that is not in the list added, it said, noting users would also be able to choose whether they want their pronouns shared with followers only or set to public.

For users under age 18, pronouns will automatically be private.
