Ari Agbayani was created for the Cap's 80th anniversary celebration and will be part of The United States of Captain America series. She will pop up in issue #4 on September. The limited series created by writer Alyssa Wong and Jodi Nishijima will follow Steve Rogers and crew on a road trip across the U.S. to recover his stolen shield—as backed by multiple stories of diverse new heroes, all of which will "spotlight the communities they are part of and the unique challenges they face," said Marvel

Who is Ari Agbayani in the Marvel world?

Enter Ari Agbayani. This new superhero is a scholar at a prestigious university. When her best friend is victimized by a rich student—and the school turns a blind eye to keep the powers that be happy—it is up to Agbayani to set things right.

Plus, this new Cap' has a different edge. If they look quite similar to a different Marvel character, it's because Wong took inspiration from someone other than Rogers.

"Ari has a strong sense of justice and admires the ideals Captain America embodies. But the Captain America she's inspired by isn't Steve Rogers--it's Bucky Barnes. Someone who hates bullies as much as Steve does, but is willing to use sneakier, shadier tactics to deal with them. Ari's a vigilante, and she knows that you can't always win by playing by the rules," they said. And you can definitely see the influence in the superhero's look, as created by Jodi Nishijima.

Wong took to Twitter to share their happiness over Ari, whose full name, the writer said, is Arielle. "It means the world to write a character who reflects my community." We can't wait to see more characters like Ari, too!
