(SPOT.ph) Leisure travel for those in Metro Manila and nearby provinces was once again suspended in March, a year after the first quarantine was imposed in 2020. But as vaccines slowly roll out, people are optimistic that it's only a matter of time before we're back at airports, ready to explore our islands and enjoy our white-sand beaches. El Nido Resorts, a group of exclusive island resorts in Palawan, has just released new travel-bubble dates all the way until December. Fixed four-day schedules are limited to three or four times a month to regulate the number of people coming in and out of each island resort.
El Nido Resorts offers four-day travel packages for their four properties: Apulit Island, Miniloc Island, Lagen Island, and Pangulasian Island. All-in rates start at P86,000, which includes three-night accommodation in an air-conditioned room or cottage, roundtrip airfare from Manila to El Nido via AirSwift, roundtrip transfers from Lio Airport to the resort, daily full-board meals, use of non-motorized sports equipment, standard tours and activities on the islands, travel insurance, and other charges. Pre-COVID rates at El Nido Resorts started at P30,000 per night (exclusive of flights).
The Ayala-owned brand started implementing the El Nido travel bubble scheme in July 2020. They were the first to receive the Department of Tourism's Certificate to Operate in Palawan with the condition that leisure bookings are only at 50% capacity. Guests from Metro Manila are flown in direct from a private hangar near Ninoy Aquino International Airport's Terminal 4 to Lio Airport within Lio Tourism Estate, where land transfers await. This minimizes contact at otherwise crowded commercial airports and public transport, which usually happens when guests fly in via Puerto Princesa and hop on a public van for a six-hour travel to El Nido.
All resort properties require travel and health declarations and negative results from RT-PCR swab testing taken 48 hours prior to departure from guests. Their partner health facility is Qualimed Clinic Makati Branch, where each test costs P4,000. El Nido Resorts also implement low-contact check-in and check-out via QR codes, e-mail, and cashless payment options; regular disinfection and cleaning of rooms; and installation of protective barriers in all reception areas. Guests are encouraged to wear PPEs (face masks, shields, et cetera), order in-room dining, and follow physical distancing measures like seat markers.
