(SPOT.ph) Hopping on a plane is our go-to transportation option when traveling to our country's many islands. But if you're looking for a cheaper alternative, there are passenger vessels and RORO ships designed to take you out into the sea for hours (or days) and bring you to your chosen destination. On May 12, local sea travel provider 2GO launched their newest state-of-the-art ship called MV 2GO Maligaya.

"Maligaya is one of the defining qualities with which the Filipino is known for around the world. 'Masaya' is a happy feeling, but 'maligaya' has a sense of deep joy and youthfulness. As a travel brand, we believe this is reflective of the kind of journey and service that you get from 2GO,” stated Blessie Cruz, 2GO Assistant Vice President for Marketing, in a press release.

The new passenger vessel acquired from Japan is part of the company's efforts to upgrade their fleet and modernize their operations. It features a technologically advanced roll-on roll-off features, bright and colorful aesthetics, and cabins that look a lot like hotel rooms. It is also larger compared to 2GO's current fleet.

MV 2GO Maligaya is set to traverse the Manila-Cebu-Cagayan de Oro route with top speed of 23.5 knots. This makes it the fastest cargo vessel today, promising a reduced travel time from Manila to Cebu to only 17 hours versus the usual 22 hours.

2GO currently has 10 ships, servicing 20 major ports of call in the Philippines. They often hold seat sales for as low as P99 (with minimal fees and taxes), so do watch for announcements on their Facebook page.
