(SPOT.ph) Negros is a popular destination for its breathtaking tourist spots, as well as for its amazing food. And while we can't quite travel to the island as often as we'd like, we Manileños get the chance to savor some of their best-known specialties every year at the Negros Trade Fair—proudly the country’s longest-running provincial trade fair, held annually by the Association of Negros Producers, and which brings the best of Negros to the Metro.

Although last year's run had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, the good news is that the Negros Trade Fair is back—and they're going online! You'll be able to shop food, garments, fashion accessories, furniture, décor, houseware, and more via their e-commerce website, which will be open from May 29 to June 30. If it's good food you seek, you've come to the right place, as we've rounded up some of the can't-miss eats that you can order.

Check out our top food picks at the 2021 Negros Trade Fair:

Felicia's is a dessert haven in Bacolod that's known for their dreamy cakes and other confections. But what you can't miss are their Ensaymada (P1,215/box of six), which are buttery as can be and about as huge as your face. Felicia's will also be selling other desserts in tins, like the Almond Crisps (P325) and their bestselling Chocolate Cake (P995).

Coffee by FreshStart Organics

Known for their organic produce and personal care products, FreshStart Organics also peddles their own organic coffee blends that use local shade-grown beans. You can take your pick between the Mt. Kanlaon Premium Blend (P525) with Arabica and Robusta beans from the Mount Kanlaon area, or the Negrense Native Organic Coffee (P400) with native Robusta beans from Negros Island.

Chorizo by Ereñeta-Manaloto's Chorizo de Bacolod

For their famous chorizo, the Ereñeta-Manaloto brand goes by a style of the sausage that dates all the way back to the pre-war era. You've got the choice between the sweeter (but not overly-sweet!) Hamonado (P385) or more savory and garlicky Recado (P385), which both have a smoky character that makes them excellent paired with lots of rice. Both variants are available as whole round sausages (bilog), or ground-up sans the skin (pudpod).

Mango Tarts by Virgie's Food Products

Pasalubong shop Virgie's is a Bacolod institution that's been around since 1974. They're hailed for their wide range of pastries that you can give out as gifts, or hoard for when the cravings hit! In particular, you can't miss the Mango Tarts (P350)—half-moon shaped mini tarts with a mango-jam filling. It's been their most popular product since the '70s, and with its crisp-buttery crust and tangy-sweet filling, it's not hard to see why. You'll also want to add their Caramel Tarts (P350), Galletas (P350), and Argellanas (P295) to your cart!

Chicken Inasal by Inasalan sa Dalan

Their inasal will be sold raw and marinated, ready to be cooked—choose between the Pecho (P475), Paa (P475), and Thigh Fillet (P615). You'll also want to pair it with their other Ilonggo specialties like the KBL (P395) and Pinitaw (P590) while you're at it.

While most of us in Manila are familiar with bagoong, over in the Southern Visayas and Mindanao, they've got guinamos—a similar fermented fish paste made with anchovies. Try it for yourself by picking up a jar of Ading's Gourmet's Guinamos Bisaya (P180). It packs a good dose of umami that'll breathe life onto just about whatever you serve with it or cook it into—green mangoes, rice, pinakbet, and so on!

For barquillos that are just lightly sweet, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth good, you'll want to check out the goat-milk based version (starts at P130) by Clara's Food Products. It's the kind of treat you can have by itself or use to embellish other desserts—try topping a bowl of ice cream with a stick or two!
