(SPOT.ph) Samgyupsal is no longer just a passing trend; now it can be considered a staple. If 2020 is anything to go by, the Cebuanos' interest to cook glorious amounts of meats tableside are at an all time high, with several popular Manila franchises like Samgyupsalamat and Romantic Baboy even entering the scene to fill the gap. But before all of these, Cebu already has a roster of "unli samgyup" and even yakiniku joints. Please pass the crushed garlic, we're ready to dig in and grill some meat.
Hungry? Here are some homegrown yakiniku and samgyupsal restaurants in Cebu for when the craving hits:
Tajimaya
Tajimaya transports your palate to Tokyo’s narrow alleyways with their Japanese cuisine. At P650 per head, you can eat-all-you-can a selection of beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, sausages, fishballs, and chicken liver and gizzard. And, once cooked to your liking, don’t forget to dip them in Tajimaya’s fragrant sauces. Whether you go for the crushed garlic, the chili bean paste, or the tare sauce, you’ll get fireworks of flavors that blend spectacularly with one another. On the side, French fries and tebasaki chicken wings give a crunchy counterpoint while the soup and green salad offer a break between the hearty main course. Tajimaya also offers à la carte dining with their premium melt-in-your-mouth wagyu, arguably one of Cebu’s best. In case you've been wondering, it is the same concept that has expanded to Manila with branches in Rockwell, Mall of Asia, and Makati Supermart Alabang.
Tajimaya has branches at Crossroads, J. Abad Santos Street, Mandaue City and Gaisano Country Mall Apas, Cebu City. For more information, visit Cebu Sumibi Yakiniku Tajimaya's Facebook page.
Wakamatsu
Wakamatsu doesn’t serve just yakiniku; they craft an entire experience that wholly encapsulates the Japanese way of dining. From the entrance, the Japanese-style door reminiscent of shoji panels already gives you a glimpse of the restaurant’s traditional roots. The rustic interiors, the chabudai (lowered table), and wooden partitions also offer you and your foodie friends a layer of privacy—leaving all distractions as you spend some quality time with your love of the night: the Japanese grilled meats. With lunch and dinner rates at P600 and P690 respectively, you have plenty of eat-all-you-can options that offer you choices of marinated meats (the usual beef, pork, and chicken) to seafood (shrimp and scallops). Ordering tempura and an assortment of different sushi off the menu is possible too for an additional fee.
Wakamatsu has branches at Pacific Square Building, F. Cabahug Street, Mabolo, Cebu City and at G/F Unit 20, 21, 22, Mactan Town Center, Basak-Marigondon Road, Lapu-Lapu City.
Migag
Splurging on unlimited KBBQ can often leave your wallet empty. But at Migag, you can fill up to your heart's content at just P289! This covers everything from the meat (samgyupsal, bulgogi, marinated pork), the tasty side dishes, to rice—all unlimited, of course. Many have sung praises for this restaurant’s spicy kimchi as well, so be sure to leave some space in your stomach for that flavor bomb. For those in the south, you'd be glad to know that they have a branch located in Minglanilla. So if you’re looking for a nearby KBBQ place to satisfy your meat cravings, Migag’s door is there to welcome you with open arms.
Migag has branches at Plaza Margarita, Minglanilla; APM Mall, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City; 35 A. Climaco Street, Capitol, Cebu City; and Boundary Bulacao Arcade, Talisay City.
Barangay Seoul
Who knew that Cebu had a Korean barangay? Okay, maybe not an actual barangay, but hear us out. Another affordable option for unli-meat dining is Barangay Seoul, with a lunch rate of P299 per head and a dinner promo of P349 per head. Don’t let the price fool you; the quality of the meat and side dishes is right up there. Aside from the usual suspects like samgyupsal, kimchi rice, and fish cake, this restaurant also has their own twist to Korean ramyun noodles to round off their menu—which you can season and boil as you please.
Barangay Seoul is at 945 Juana Osmeña Street corner Ma. Cristina Street, Cebu City. For more information, visit Barangay Seoul's Facebook page.
Pearl Meatshop
This list would be incomplete without the first samgyupsal restaurant in Cebu City. Even with their no-frills interiors, they still manage to attract a loyal following for their quality meats. The crowning jewel of this establishment is their bulgogi that no restaurant can imitate after all these years. After marinating it in a sweet-savory mixture of soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and sesame oil, the beef brisket’s lean and juicy texture hits you like an umami truck—rich, succulent, and flavorful. But bulgogi isn’t the only winning item here. You can pick from samgyupsal, low-fat moksal, hangeongsal, and shabu-shabu too. Pearl Meat Shop has a starting rate of P350 per head for unlimited pork, rice, samgyupsal, and moksal; and P450 for all of that plus unli beef short plate and chuck eye. Either option comes with free bottomless iced tea, too.
Pearl Meat Shop and Restaurant has branches at Gaisano Country Mall, Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue, Apas, Cebu City; A. S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City; Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City; Gaisano Island Mall, Manuel L. Quezon Highway, Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan; and Cebu North Road, Mandaue City. Kogi-Q
You may have once passed by its bright red facade driving through Parkmall or strolling aimlessly in SM malls. And come on, is there any Cebuano who hasn’t? At P400, you’ll have access to a buffet selection that doesn’t shy away from mishmashing various cuisines. The food selection is broad and far-reaching, including meats like marinated pork belly, imported yakiniku, and—wait for it—cocktail hotdogs. Yes, this is also the only restaurant where you can have yakiniku and chorizo at the same time.
Kogi-Q’s has branches at Parkmall, Mandaue City; SM Cebu, Cebu City; Mactan Economic Processing Zone 2, Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan; and SM Seaside City, Cebu City. For more information, visit Kogi-Q's Facebook page.
Leega
Leega never fails to draw a crowd of pleasure-seeking coworkers and food-tripping families on busy weekends. The restaurant has a self-service buffet center brimming with both bite-sized appetizers and hearty fried food, which includes Korean fried chicken. At just P299, you get unlimited tender pork slices and an assortment of side dishes. Depending on the availability, you will find kimchi, jajangmyeon, egg rolls, jap chae, topokki, or dumplings on their serving trays. Add P100 to the base price, and you get to have slices of Korean beef (chadolbagi) to your heart’s delight, too. Plus, you get to have a generous helping of melted mozzarella cheese sauce alongside your meats.
Find Lee Ga at A.S. Fortuna Street, Banilad, Mandaue City. For more information, visit Leega Korean Restaurant's Facebook page.

The Unlimited 1 combo includes all-you-can-eat samgyupsal and 20 accompanying side dishes for P360. If you’re looking for a different selection of meats, the Unlimited 2 combo introduces various cuts of beef into the mix, which includes bulgogi and gochujang beef, for P399.
