(SPOT.ph) We're a year into quarantine, which also means we're also a year into late-night addresses. In particular, President Rodrigo Duterte's most recent public address caught the attention of philanthropist and actress Angel Locsin, as seen on her recent IG story. On her post, Locsin reminded the president that "it's concrete solutions not emotions that we need to hear from you right now."
Locsin's open letter was in reponse to a quote from the President during his address on Monday, March 29, which went: "Gusto ko na nga umiyak sa harap ninyo pero naubos na ang luha ko" in regards to the vaccine situation in the country. On March 30, Locsin reacted through an IG Story, which started with this line: "With all due respect to your feelings for our countrymen."
"You can rant and share with your closest friends but not when addressing the nation," said Locsin.
The IG story was followed hours later, in the morning of March 31 with a shout out for the decision to give out aid to NCR Plus residents "in-kind" amid the ECQ. Locsin pointed out that the aid would mean great help for folks, especially for those who make money on a "no work, no pay" basis. "Napakagangdang balita na mabasa po sa umaga."
Not A First for Angel Locsin
Locsin has been making waves not only for using her voice and platform to speak up on big issues—the loss of her home network ABS-CBN's franchise in 2020 included—but also for her philanthropic acts. Her fearless actions led her to be red-tagged by the Armed Forces in October 2020 but that certainly hasn't stopped her for saying what she believes needs to be said.
