(SPOT.ph) There's something about the sight of flowers that instantly brightens up your mood and puts you in a more tranquil state of mind. Picture that, all while sipping on a well-crafted cup of joe and taking your time over an afternoon snack. Yup, such a place exists—in the form of Fifty Nine Flower Cafe, an #aesthetic café in Makati that's both flower shop and dining spot that's IG-worthy, too.

The space that Fifty Nine Flower Cafe occupies used to be a baking studio where owner Shirley Wong had an unforgettable date with the man who would be her husband, Kevin. "That moment was something both of them cherished," shares co-owner Sheryl Vy, Shirley's sister. When they saw that the space was up for lease, they decided to go for it. Together with Vy, they made the decision to "turn that memorable moment into something that everyone else can experience too"—and thus Fifty Nine Flower Cafe was born.

Fifty Nine Flower Cafe opened in February 2020, but had to stop operations as the lockdown took place. They slowly reopened in June, and Vy says they took that time and opportunity to "improve and learn more things like going aggressive online". The sisters are both fans of food and traveling—and whenever they'd travel together, they'd make it a point to visit cafes, flowershops, bookstores, and vintage shops. "[We] wanted people to experience that rustic, homey vibe right in the middle of a very busy city where everything moves at a fast pace—a place where people can pause and enjoy the little things in life," says Vy.

We could totally stay here all day.

True to their name, you'll find flowers around their space—even on the ceilings and walls! The café's got shades of white, gold, taupe, and hazelnut on the walls, chairs, tables, and floors, given a pop of color from the greenery and various blooms that deck the corners. It's both rustic and elegant, and is as #aesthetic as it is relaxing—especially with the soft bossa music playing in the background.

The floral theme extends to their drinks, many of which feature flowers. The hot Latte (P115) is a creamy coffee drink served with edible flowers that imbibe the cup with its aroma. If you're looking for a soothing beverage, try one of their hot teas, like the hot Black Goji Berry Tea (P105), which is served with a lemon slice and edible flowers, and changes color as it's poured into the cup. There are iced options, too, like the iced Rose Tea Latte (P125) with black tea, rose syrup, foamed milk, full cream milk, garnished with fresh rose bud petals. And for a sip that feels like a warm hug, you can also go for the not-too-sweet hot Chocolate (P130), also garnished with edible flowers.

You can practically travel by taste here, too, as their menu features a mix of different cuisines—"mainly French, Italian, and American," says Vy. For a light meal that pairs perfectly with any of their drinks, try one of their sandwiches, like the 59 House Sandwich (P140)—their take on a clubhouse sandwich with ham, bacon, cheese, cucumber, lettuce, and tomato—or the creamy and meaty Beef Quesadilla Rolls (P200) with meat sauce, shredded lettuce, and cheese.

There are heavier options as well; if you're looking for a Mediterranean-leaning bite, you can't go wrong with the Spaghetti Puttanesca (P250) with tomato sauce given extra oomph with capers, olives, basil, parsley. There are meaty eats for your inner carnivore—including the rightfully garlicky Pork Tenderloin Salpicao (P300) and the crunchy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside Chicken Fingers & Fries (P220) that's marinated with calamansi for the distinct zestiness of the citrus.

And for a sweet ending, it's worth saving space for their swoon-worthy desserts. There's the bestselling Classic Ube (P150) cake that's as light and fluffy as can be; if you prefer a treat on the zestier side of the spectrum, go for the Calamansi Pie (P150). There's also the New York Cheesecake (P150), which is wonderfully dense and perfect with coffee.

With beautiful interiors and great eats and drinks, Fifty Nine Flower Cafe serves not only as a great hangout place, but also a place where you can take things slow and just enjoy the moment. In Vy's words: "People nowadays tend to forget that there's more to life than work and Fifty Nine Flower Cafe is here to remind them [of] that."
