(SPOT.ph) Chances are you've got a tall pile of old newspapers, magazines, empty plastic bottles, and more hidden somewhere in your home. It feels like a waste to just throw them away but there's just not enough time to recycle or at least dispose of them properly—which is where this new app will hopefully help. Trash Panda is a collection service app through which you can have your recyclables picked up and brought to the proper facilities. The app, available on Google Play, launched today, March 18.

Their collection services are currently available in the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Manila, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, and Taguig, as well as in Cainta, Rizal. As for other locations and iPhone users? Don't feel left out just yet! Trash Panda is "working on it," according to their Facebook post.
How Does the Trash Panda App Work?
There are four steps to using the app after the super straightforward registation process. Note that you will have to input your full address and contact details in the app!
First step is to make sure you've segregated right. Trash Panda will take four main types of recyclables: paper and cardboard (flatten, fold what you can, and sort according to size); used beverage cartons (rinse the insides and dry before flattening); plastics (most kinds except polyvinyl chloride, a.k.a. PVC, type for now); and even metals such as tin cans, foil, and copper. Be sure all your recyclables are clean and dry before handing them over!
Second step is to book a collection. Just open up the app and click the "Book now" button to select a date. Fill out the booking form for more information. Next step is just to wait for their collector to come on over! The recyclable waste will be weighed by the collector and recorded.
The fourth step lets you keep track of where your recyclables are going through the app. "We’ll let you know where your waste is going. Hint: not to the landfills, dumpsites, rivers or seas!" noted Trash Panda. Your recyclable waste will be heading to "partner facilities for recycling and processing," they said online.
Trash Panda is available on Google Play.
