(SPOT.ph) Today, March 5, world-famous Japanese retailer MUJI finally opened their biggest store in the Philippines, located at the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza. The opening was first announced in mid-January through a Facebook post. MUJI closed their original branch in the mall in September 2020 to make way for the expansion and renovation, turning the previously 400-square meter store into a 1,400-square meter space—more than triple the original size. Around 4,000 items will be available in the new store including furniture, home essentials, beauty and wellness products, stationery, clothing, and so much more.
The opening of the new outpost also brings about brand-new MUJI products and services exclusive to their largest branch in the country including their unisex clothing line MUJI Labo, consultation services for furniture, storage, interior, and wardrobe styling with product recommendations provided by MUJI advisors, the shop's very own water-refilling station, a dedicated space for showcasing design concepts and holding workshops called Open MUJI, and more. Dying to see it for yourself?
Here's your first look inside MUJI's biggest store in the Philippines:
The sheer floor space of the new MUJI store in Shangri-La Plaza necessitates at least few good minutes (maybe even hours) of exploring, so we went ahead and browsed through every section for you, so you know where to look depending on what's on your wish list. Of course, if you ask us, every section deserves at least a little inspection, so take your time shopping and exploring.
Get ready to pick your jaw up off of the floor—the entrance is huge.
If you're familiar with MUJI's original Shangri-La Plaza branch, you'll be shocked to see just how much it's expanded. Just the sight of the glass facade, brightly lit store signs, and maroon framing will get your heart racing!
The clothing area has everything you need to complete your capsule wardrobe.
MUJI is known for their form-meets-function aesthetic—a design philosophy they apply to every product including their wide range of apparel. Their clothing section, which styles pieces for men, women, and children, is perfect for those who love to stock up on practical pieces that offer versatility and timelessness.
While we're on the topic of apparel, we can't help but give a special mention to MUJI's shoe section. Their understated pairs could be your go-to for everyday use!
MUJI's biggest store in the Philippines is the only outpost in the country with its own water-refilling station.
Near the store's cashier is a water-refilling station where customers are encouraged to purchase a MUJI Water Bottle (P160) and fill them up instead of option for single-use plastic cups and bottles. Refills are free, but note that customers can only refill their bottles two times (for a maximum of about 600 ml of water) per day. Drinking inside the store is discouraged.
MUJI's health and beauty section exudes serenity and a love of self-care.
MUJI is pretty much a one-stop shop for anything and everything you need at home, so of course they've got a varied selection of personal care products including skincare and makeup finds, home fragrances, bathroom essentials, and more.
No trip to MUJI is complete without a stop at their fan-favorite stationery section.
The Shangri-La outpost has its very own Open MUJI—the first in the Philippines.
Open MUJI is a dedicated space for showcasing design concepts and holding workshops. MUJI stores all over the world have their own version of the section, each featuring different displays highlighting MUJI's design philosophies as well their approach to home furnishing, lifestyle, and fashion. The display may change over time as the seasons go by, so you'll always want to keep checking back to see what they've got in store for you.
MUJI's houseware section is basically your dream home come to life.
Perhaps the two biggest sections of the new store are the apparel section and the oh-so stunning houseware section—and rightfully so because the latter uses its expansive space to fulfill our Japanese-style home makeover fantasies. You'll find minimalist-chic household essentials like kitchen tools, ceramics, utensils, cleaning devices, linens, storage solutions, furniture, and more that look straight out of a Pinterest board!
MUJI's biggest store in the Philippines is at 4/F East Wing, Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong City.
