Starbucks Puts the Spotlight on Endangered Philippine Animals With Cute New Mugs

(SPOT.ph) Among the many quirks and responses the (still ongoing) quarantine period in Manila has provoked, it has proven to be the golden age of ceramic collecting in the Metro with folks from all over flocking to home stores and kitchen equipment shops just to stock up. In case you're still growing your brand-new mug collection, here are a few more pieces to add to your stockpile: The Starbucks Philippine Wildlife Collection features cute new mugs that benefit a good cause!

The Philippine Wildlife Collection includes three tumblers featuring designs inspired by some of the country’s most endangered species, namely the Negros Bleeding-Heart Bird, Tamaraw, and Palawan Forest Turtle. Each mug has a corresponding Bearista Bear stuffed toy in a matching design that also highlights the endangered animal. For this collection, Starbucks partnered up with the World Wildlife Fund Philippines. For every item purchased from the line from February 23 to April 19, Starbucks will donate P50 to the World Wildlife Fund’s conservation initiative. That means you can cop cute new mugs and stuffed toys while also helping out a good cause!

Check out each of the mugs and Bearista Bears you can shop:

When you think of endangered animals in the Philippines, the tamaraw is likely one of the first that comes to mind, so it's no surprise to see it emphasized in a collection dedicated to conservation. The tamaraw is endemic to the island of Mindoro and is considered the world’s rarest buffalo species. We love the coffee shop's cute take on the animal!

This mug and Bearista Bear are modeled after the Negros Bleeding-Heart bird, a critically endangered species of pigeon endemic to the islands of Negros and Panay. It gets its name from the distinctive orange stripe on its chest, which can be seen on Starbucks' merch in the shape of a heart.

Last but not least is the Palawan Forest Turtle mug and Bearista Bear. The animal is endemic to the island in its name and is one of the most endangered turtle species in the world.
