(SPOT.ph) Most of us have been in community quarantine for almost a year now, and the best practice to keep ourselves safe from the virus is—of courseto stay home. This meant relying on online banking, delivery, and pabili services for groceries, food, clothes, and just about anything. Recognizing this major shift to cashless shopping, e-wallet PayMaya upped their stakes in the e-commerce industry by launching their own virtual mall called Maya Mall on Thursday, February 11.

The update mobile app now shows the new "Maya Mall" button on its landing page, which leads users to a list of merchants that partnered with PayMaya. All brands are categorized, which include restaurants and fast foods like Mang Inasal and McDonald's, pharmacies like Mercury Drug, groceries like Landers and Ever Supermarket, and other retail stores like Rustan's, Pet Warehouse, Nautica, and more. Clicking on the thumbnails leads you to the merchant's own online store, where you can purchase your items and check out just by using your PayMaya account or mobile number.

"The PayMaya Mall is also our way of helping local businesses bounce back from the effects of the pandemic because there’s no extra cost for merchants to be included in the PayMaya Mall," said Mark Jason Dee, head of growth, marketing and partnerships for PayMaya.

Unlike GrabFood, FoodPanda, Lazada, and Shopee where all online transactions are housed within the app (which also means added cost to merchants), the goal of PayMaya's Maya Mall is to expose their merchant-partners to their 28 million users. This also means that inventory and delivery of products is not handled by PayMaya, but by the partner-merchant themselves.
