(SPOT.ph) It’s day who-knows-what in the Metro Manila-wide quarantine imposed to minimize the effects of COVID-19, and if you aren’t already planning your next few months of revenge travel, it’s a safe bet you’ve been daydreaming about taking a mini-break in the form of a hotel staycation. Who wouldn’t? A night or two spent in a plush suite would sound like a full-blown vacation if you’ve been cooped up within the same four walls for nearly a year.
We get it, though: these days, the idea of leaving your safe zone and staying at a hotel with other people would be enough to make anyone feel anxious. To ensure you’d know which hotels comply with their health and safety protocols, the Department of Tourism has released a list of accredited hotels for staycations in Metro Manila; among them, The Peninsula Manila.
Booking a Hotel Staycation
You can make a reservation online via The Peninsula Manila website—the Peninsula Welcome staycation package starts at P6,500 and includes a Deluxe Room with set breakfast and complimentary use of the fitness center and pool, plus one complimentary Rapid Antigen Test.
The Peninsula Welcome package is a convenient way to go since you’ll need to present your results when you check in anyway. The Pen’s accredited clinic has branches in Alabang and Makati, and you’ll get results after 30 minutes. We were advised to go to the clinic first—an appointment is required—then wait for the results before heading to the hotel for check-in.
The Safety Protocols
All of The Peninsula’s rooms are sanitized and sealed before each guest arrives. You’ll also be given a sanitation kit with a face mask, reusable face mask holder, alcohol wipes, and hand sanitizer. The hotel just recently completed renovating all their rooms, and we kid you not when we say you’ll be tempted to just chill in your room all day. When you do manage to get yourself off the cloud-like bed, though, go for a dip in the pool—it’s one of the best in Metro Manila—and they make sure to schedule all pool users so you know you won’t be elbowing your way through a crowd.
You can opt to explore beyond the hotel too, as long as you always wear your face mask and face shield. Makati City has a curfew in place, so guests need to be back by midnight.
Eating at The Peninsula Manila
We’d be the first to admit it: the buffet breakfast is one of the main reasons we’d want to take a hotel staycation in the first place. If you feel the same way, you’d be happy to know that breakfast is served at The Lobby, and while it’s not a buffet, the set includes all the things any breakfast-loving person would want: a fresh fruit plate, your choice between toast or pastries, a selection of fresh juices, and mains: choices include pancakes, eggs Benedict, or a Filipino or Continental breakfast. For guests who’d prefer to eat in-room, the hotel recommends booking only a room and going for room service instead.
For Valentine's Day 2021, you can choose between a four-course dinner at The Lobby, where The Peninsula Strings will be playing from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., or a five-course dinner at Old Manila with food prepared by Chef de Cuisine Allan Briones. Looking for something a little more laid-back? Go for the Grill-All-You-Can and Seafood menu at Spices.
Whatever kind of staycation you’ve got in mind, you’d have a range of options—the Simple Loves staycation (rates start at P5,500) is inclusive of a Deluxe Room, set breakfast for two adults, and complimentary access to the fitness center. Family Loves (rates start at P10,000), meanwhile, is inclusive of a Deluxe Room, set breakfast for two adults and two children under five, set family-style lunch made up of “The Peninsula Manila Favorites” or dinner at The Lobby or Spices, and complimentary use of the fitness center and swimming pool.
