(SPOT.ph) Chinese New Year is synonymous with feasting on lots of great Chinese eats—and one of the foods specifically associated with the occasion is nian gao, more popularly known as tikoy. This traditional rice cake is often made with glutinous rice flour, wheat starch, salt, water, and sugar, and can be steamed, fried, or even wrapped in lumpia wrappers and cooked to a crisp. It's considered good luck to eat it during this time of the year, and if you're looking for places to order for yourself or your friends and family, we've got you covered.

China Blue at Conrad Manila is known for their modern and leveled-up Chinese fare, and you can expect that same philosophy applied to their Signature Nian Gao. Their take is available in Traditional Brown Sugar, Coconut, Orange, and Red Date with Ginger flavors, and come packaged either in their collector's-edition Christy Ng designer bag (P2,888) or in Conrad Manila's own luxe jewelry case (P1,888). This Chinese deli sells all sorts of Chinese eats, from mooncakes to hopia to mochi—and their tikoy selection is worth mentioning for the one-of-a-kind flavors you can get. Sure, you can go for the standard White (starts at P135/small) or Brown (starts at P135/small) tikoy variants, or you can try their other flavors like Strawberry (starts at P165/small) or Sweet Corn (starts at P165/small). They've also got limited-edition tikoy variants, like the Cheese (P288) and Chorizo (P298). Shangri-La at the Fort's resident Chinese restaurant approaches the cuisine in such a way that they balance tradition and modernity. This Chinese New Year, they've got their Signature Nian Gao that's available in Coconut (P2,388/two pieces) and Radish (P1,788) flavors—the former is shaped like a fish, while the latter is round. You can also go for one of their hampers, such as their Spring Hamper (P3,988), which includes their vegetarian XO sauce, dried mushroom flowers, red pitted dates, dark chocolate truffles with Armagnac, spicy cashew nuts, pine nut cookies, crispy oven sesame balls, and a gift box each of both nian gao flavors.
