This Cool New Shop's Gotchu When the Chinese-Food Cravings Hit

(SPOT.ph) Chinese takeout is one of the most popular choices whenever the hankering for a flavorful meal hits. Why not? It's got that savory character that hits the hunger spot, and it's generally affordable too. If you're looking for an umami-packed bite, you'll want to check out Chow Eats—a new takeout and delivery service by online restaurant group Mad Eats, with familiar and novel takes on Chinese-takeout classics.

The idea is to "re-ignite and bring to life what Chinese takeout could be and should be," shares Chow Time, explaining that they want to bring back "the nostalgia of opening a takeout box filled to the brim with your favorite Chinese dish."

"We saw that there was a gap in the market for 'easy' Chinese takeout," shares Mad Eats co-founder Andie Cruz. "More often than not, we've observed that most Chinese restaurant menus are quite extensive and can sometimes be overwhelming. But with this concept, we tried to pinpoint what exactly the craveable favorites are for ease of ordering." That means "less time to think about what to order, and more time to just eat"—which sounds good to us!

Chow Time's got everything from dim sum to noodles to meaty mains and more.

Chow Eats' food ranges from dim sum, hot plates (a.k.a. meaty mains), noodles, fried rice, and street snacks. You can order them as part of their special combos—namely, the Lucky Meal (P168) with a serving of dim sum and rice or noodles, or the Hot Meal (P238) which comes with one of their hot plates and rice or noodles—or ala carte (good for two to three) if you prefer.

Dim sum options include the steamed or fried Siomai (P188/ala carte), steamed or fried Shark's Fin (P188/ala carte), and steamed Dumplings (P188)—all of which have great umami flavor. For hot plates, you can go for the crisp-yet-light Five Spice Fried Chicken (P338/ala carte), the Sweet & Sour Pork (P348/ala carte), or the pungent and peppery Black Pepper Beef Belly (P388/ala carte). And for carbs, take your pick from flavorful rice and noodle dishes that can stand on their own, but also go with their mains—such as the Chow Time Fried Rice (P258/ala carte), Dried Scallop Fried Rice (P358/ala carte), Soy Street Noodles (P288/ala carte), or Garlic Sesame Street Noodles (P288/ala carte).

If you're just looking for a casual snack, check out the Easy Chow section of their menu—Chinese-style snacks that Chow Time has given their own signature spin. Their Hot & Sour Wanton Crackle (P48) has a surprising pungent, sour flavor from a sprinkling of kimchi powder—which is as ingenious as it sounds! The house-made Coconut Milk Hopia (P150) is another standout, coming with a slightly-molten, custardy coconut milk filling that pairs beautifully with the soft crust.

It might look like your typical chips, but trust us, the Hot & Sour Wonton Crackle pack a flavorful punch.

Hungry yet? You can get your fix of these dishes by logging onto Chow Time's website; they deliver to Makati and BGC, but if you're outside those areas, you can select "pickup" upon checkout and book your own courier. You can also send them a message on Instagram.

Mad Eats is an online restaurant group whose food brands are specifically made for delivery. "With the rise of online food delivery and the increased habit of eating at home, the MadEats team believes that the future of F&B is online, and delivery is here to stay," says Cruz. Other concepts under their belt are Korean fried-chicken brand Yang Gang, and upcoming fried-rice brand Fried Nice.
