(SPOT.ph) If there's any food that gives you the most satisfaction for the least amount of effort, it's instant noodles. All you need to do is cook the noodles and mix everything together, and you can dig in and enjoy its umami goodness, stat! But if you're looking to dig into a dish that's a little more on the topnotch, restaurant-quality side—but that's just as easy to prepare as the instant stuff in packets—we've got the answer for you. Ultramen is a new ramen-kit venture by Lowbrow Casual Restaurants (a.k.a. the group behind Wrong Ramen and Bad Bird), and they promise you great, resto-worthy noodles that even the laziest folks can whip up!
Ultramen's got a short-but-sweet lineup that includes ramen and dry noodles. For ramen, you can take your pick between the Quick Cook Rich Tonkotsu Ramen (P290) or the spicy Quick Cook Rich Tantanmen Ramen (P290)—both of which employ a heady broth made from pork fat and bones boiled for 12 hours and firm, chewy noodles made using a Yamato noodle machine. They couldn't be easier to prepare: thaw the pack, then cook the noodles in boiling water for 50 to 60 seconds (be mindful of the time!). Heat the soup just until it starts to simmer, then pour into a bowl with the cooked noodles. Add the chashu and seasoning oil, and you're done—that takes no more than four minutes!
Also on Ultramen's menu is the Ultramen Dry Noodles (P459), which as the name implies is a dry noodle dish with your choice of sauces. Go for the Tantanmen if you like it spicy and nutty, the Kimchi if you're after a pungent bite, or the Rich Pork if you're big on meaty flavor. Preparing it is similar to the ramen kits—but instead of heating broth, you heat up the sauce in a pan and throw the noodles into it once hot. It's ready in just five minutes!
While the ramen and dry noodles are plenty tasty on its own, you can spice them up even further with the Ultramen Chili Crumble (P140, available in Mild and Spicy). This special condiment is made with fried chicken skin, garlic, and other umami ingredients, and is great with just about everything—rice, chicharon, dim sum, you name it!
You can get your Ultramen fix from Lowbrow Casual Restaurants' delivery website. They deliver around Metro Manila and accept payments made through credit or debit card, GCash, and bank deposit.
Looking for a creamy beverage to balance the savory, umami profile of the noodles? We recommend the Matcha Milk & Espresso Panna Cotta drink by Mama Cha, which also doubles as a great dessert!
