Longchamp and its extremely popular Le Pliage bag have long symbolized timeless style. Here are some things you didn't know about the French luxury leather-goods company.
Before the Le Pliage bags, the brand was originally known for its leather-covered pipes
In 1948, a man named Jean Cassegrain started to run his father's tobacco store named Au Sultan. He decided to rebrand by producing the world's first luxury leather-covered pipes. Cassegrain's business eventually expanded to small leather goods like wallets, as well as handbags and luggage.
The Le Pliage was introduced in 1993
Did you know that the handbag's name translates to "the folding" in French? The Le Pliage's design was heavily inspired by origami, and was designed by Philippe Cassegrain and Isabelle Guyon to be lightweight and foldable.
