(SPOT.ph) Green spots where you can rest and take in some fresh air are few and far between in urban areas. But one particular city in the Philippines is proving that it is possible to have more of these types of spaces. Iloilo City has announced plans of building a butterfly garden in the La Paz Plaza, a popular hangout spot for city folks—and safe to say, the upcoming addition will make the walkable city even more fun to walk around in.

Although no official timeline has been released, the Butterfly Garden Committee has already got the ball rolling, announced Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. The committee, headed by the mayor's wife, Rosalie, met on October 27 to present the design and project location, requirements needed, plans, trainings, tools and essentials.

A close-up of the proposed plan allows a sneak peek; looks like the butterfly garden is set to be a 270 square meters big! The garden will be made with the objective of it being "more educational, interactive, and exciting for children," noted Leny Ledesma, part of the committee, in a post by the city government. Ledesma noted that they got insights from "our biologists, our butterfly collector and nature and eco experts," for the garden.
"We always aim for sustainable development for the city," wrote the mayor about the butterfly garden. This is just one of many green-leaning projects in Iloilo City, a place known for putting walking and cycling among the top priorities. They are also working on creating a "Green Tunnel," a.k.a. a hanging garden, over the bike lane along Diversion Road and have been turning their unused sidewalks into little forests.
