Trevor Henderson’s Mayfair Watchers Society podcast is becoming a found footage horror movie

Trevor Henderson, the horror artist behind viral monsters like Siren Head and Cartoon Cat, is bringing another of his creations to the big screen. Cineverse is developing a feature film based on Mayfair Watchers Society, the found-footage-style horror podcast launched through the company’s Bloody FM network in 2022.

As reported by Variety, the Mayfair Watchers Society movie will be a found footage anthology featuring multiple stories and creatures from the podcast. Henderson will produce the film and join its writing team, working with Cineverse as the project develops.

The announcement gives Henderson another feature film project as Hollywood continues to pursue horror properties that first found audiences online. His other creations, Siren Head and Cartoon Cat, have also attracted big screen interest.

What is Mayfair Watchers Society?

Mayfair Watchers Society is a horror podcast series that is presented as a collection of found tapes and audio accounts, with individual episodes following residents who encounter the strange and terrifying creatures that inhabit Henderson’s horror-filled world. That format will carry over into the movie. Rather than following one continuous story about a single monster, the film is planned as a found footage anthology featuring different encounters and creatures from the podcast.

The anthology approach also gives the filmmakers an opportunity to explore multiple corners of Henderson’s unsettling mythology in one feature.

Which monsters will appear in the Mayfair Watchers Society movie?

The Mayfair Watchers Society film is expected to draw from several stories and creatures featured in the podcast. The characters named in the announcement include:

  • The Needle
  • Creekman
  • Owls with Teeth
  • Mr. Bag
  • Anxious Dogs
  • Scissors
  • The Clatter

Specific plot details for the individual segments have not yet been revealed.

Trevor Henderson will help develop the horror movie

Henderson will produce the Mayfair Watchers Society movie and take part in its writing process. He also expects to be closely involved as Cineverse develops the project and selects its directing and writing teams. He told Variety,

“The Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting teams have been great partners on the podcast, and I’ve long been impressed with the film side of the company, and its indie philosophy.”

He added that he looks forward to being hands-on with the adaptation and working with the team as it moves closer to reaching fans.

Mayfair Watchers Society joins Siren Head and Cartoon Cat in Hollywood

The Mayfair Watchers Society movie is the latest feature film project connected to Henderson’s work. The artist has become known for creating unsettling creatures that spread across the internet, including Siren Head, a towering figure with sirens in place of a head, and Cartoon Cat, a disturbing character inspired by vintage cartoon imagery.

Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Siren Head following a competitive bidding process. Whalefall‘s Brian Duffield is attached to direct the film and co-write the screenplay with Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind Barbarian, Weapons, and Resident Evil.

Meanwhile, TriStar Pictures acquired the rights to develop a feature film based on Cartoon Cat.

When will the Mayfair Watchers Society movie be released?

Cineverse has not announced a release date for the Mayfair Watchers Society movie. The directing and writing teams are currently being assembled.

With Siren Head and Cartoon Cat also headed toward feature adaptations, Mayfair Watchers Society gives Henderson another opportunity to turn his internet-born horror creations into a big screen experience.
